Report Id:

IE passing random usernames

For the past couple months we have been seeing users that get challenged for credentials at times when their accounts are not locked and their passwords are valid. What we find when we connect to their system is that the reason for this is the dialog box had the wrong username. For example a new user today would get domain\firstname.lastname and then at a seemingly random time later the IE popping asking for proper credentials will havefirstinitiallastname or something else that they're AD account was never setup to. They can then choose to use a different account but not sure why or where it suddenly gets an incorrect userame from.

Most are running IE9 with some 10 and 11.

Just reaching out if anyone else has experienced this.

Differences between IE in XP and IE in windows 7 X64

I have an issue with a website, it seems that i can't access the site with IE8 on windows 7 x64 but using IE8 on Windows XP SP3 works fine.. I have done this with all updates on both machines, and no updates on either machine, aside from IE8 and the pre-reqs on the XP system..

On the 7 system it takes about 14min to load the page, and eventually will come up.. The debug info shows that there is roughly 307.97seconds to load the page on the windows 7 machine, but on the XP machine it is 14ms. Can anyone tell me what the key differences are between windows 7 in IE and windows XP in the same version of IE.

Both machines are on the same network.

The windows 7 machine is 16GB of ram, with a I7 processor..

The XP machine is 790MHZ and 2GB of memory..

Thoughts?

2013 Excel WFservlet.xls check exports to Excel and opens blank Windows 7 Ent

HI All,

I am trying to work through an issue involving an online check through Accounts payable downloading to a blank Excel document. If the user saves the file it opens as it should but if she chooses to open it, it opens blank. If I go to View>Arrange All> leave the Tile selected (basically do nothing but click OK) and click OK it opens. I have done an Office repair with no luck and also a complete uninstall then used the office removal tool then reinstalled with reboots in-between and still no change.

This computer is on a domain and I can get the check to export to excel without any issues on another computer so I know it's not her roaming profile. I can get it to work on my machine and others as me, admin and her but on her machine no luck. I have opened IE settings on her machine and a working machine and matched the settings exactly as well as Excel settings. I have started Excel in safe mode and exported but no luck. I have disabled all add ins in excel and added the site to compatibility settings and trusted sites in IE. I reset the browser and deleted history with all options selected.

In the beginning I was receiving the error "The file format and extension of ".xls" don't match. The file could be corrupted or unsafe. Unless you trust its source, don't open it. Do you want to open it anyway?" I checked the following In Windows Explorer Tools > Folder Options > View tab > made sure "Hide extensions for known file types" was unchecked.

I also did

  1. Open your Registry (Start -> Run -> regedit.exe)
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OFFICE\12.0\EXCEL\SECURITY
  3. Right click in the right window and choose New -> DWORD
  4. Type “ExtensionHardening” as the name (without the quotes)
  5. Verify that the data has the value “0″

No luck.

If I log into the computer as local admin or my domain account it still opens blank.

Bypass open/save prompt - Open PDFs directly in browser

Howdy,

We are a financial institution that provides customer-facing kiosks for our online banking within each retail location.

Our kiosks have aftermarket software called "Internet Kiosk Pro" installed to prevent access to the full Windows GUI, restrict access to our handful of websites, etc.

It seems as if MSIE v10 and later have no option to bypass or "always open" a particular file type. The trouble thus presented is that it becomes impossible for our customer to view their statements online in PDF format.

The most promising workaround I've found involved a registry hack along the lines of this. The specific app or file type is placed inside the new key.

  • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Shell
  • If it doesn’t exist, create the AttachmentExecute key
  • Create the {0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} key

This method only produced strange results like blank browser tabs opening, etc., but never simply unfettered opening of PDF files. Neither have I found a way within Adobe Reader XI to open inside of browser. A setting exists for it, however MSIE still prompts for open/save.

How can this be accomplished within MSIE v10/11? TIA!

Unable to uninstall IE10

Hi All,

We have a client who runs Server 2012(non R2) and it looks like at some point the have tried to remove IE10 from the server. I can only assume it didn't go well as it is still there in C:\Program Files but we can not run it. When we double click on it the program doesn't open and no process is running. When we try to install IE10 again it gives an error reporting that a newer version is installed (We are using 10.0.9200.16521 installer). We have tried removing IE10 by using the following command in an elevated command prompt.

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*10.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

and rebooting after the fact but it still does not work. We do get an error Operation failed with 0x80070005 Access is denied.

When we run it with the quiet switch we don't get the error but even after the reboot it still is not removed.

Any advice would be great thanks.

IE11 Enterprise Mode Fails on Windows 2008 R2

Citrix XenApp 6.5 Environment with Citrix Profiles enabled on Windows 2008 R2 SP1

IE version 11.0.9600.17.207

Enterprise Enabled through Group Policy at the Computer Object level. Confirmed. Also tried at the User policy level with the same result.

Site List accessible via http, confirmed that it does work.

The websites that are in the Site List sporadically work, today the user logs on (same server) Enterprise Mode gets enabled. Log off and log back onto the same server, Enterprise mode fails to turn on. More times than none, it fails to turn on. Even with the same session if I close and reopen IE (without logging on) it may or may not turn on, if it does turn on however it seem to stick no how many times I open and close IE...until you log off and on again.

Any anyone within a remote desktop environment seen similar results?

Advantage & Drawbacks of Removing IE

Hi All,

Can someone tell me if Dism is used to remove IE from the Server then are all the binaries being removed or they have yet to be serviced & will be staged?

There is a need to remove IE and would want to understand if there are drawbacks of it. To be precise these servers are not using internet Explorer at all.

JC

Hi,

Internet Explorer version 10 was approved using WSUS but few Windows 7 machines are not receiving the update through Windows update. Tried the below steps:

1. Changed the Target Group in the client to the IE10 Approved Target Group.

2. Manually installed the IE10 Pre requisites.

3. Ran Microsoft fixit.

4. Ran System readiness tool

None of the above worked.

Please guide on this issue.

Pages are not being displayed properly with automatic proxy configuration in IE11

Hello

we provide a proxy-service for some customers. We have two of them, that have some strange issues.

If they activate their automatic configuration script in IE11 some pages (like google maps) are not displayed correctly. We already checked the wpad. Unfortunately the problem occurs with a simple wpad without any special settings too.

If we deactivate the automatic configuration everything is fine.
The problem occurs only with the automatic configuration, not with the "normal" proxy settings.

I already tried to activate/deactivate the compatibility mode for IE. Unfortunately without success.

With IE 9, the problem does not occur.
The operating system is windows 7 enterprise x64

Open or Save WolAuthenticationHandler.json

Hi,

On my fresh install of Windows 8 which is upgraded to 8.1, I see below prompt when I browse some sites:

"Do you want to open or save WolAuthenticationHandler.json from windows.microsoft.com?"

Some of those sites are famous sites and I have browsed them a lot before (like "stackoverflow.com").

Any solutions to this annoying issue?

Thanks.

The file will open in Chrome but I am wondering if that's because Chrome downloads the file as if I choose to save the file opens fine. I am going to run the OffCAT will post my findings.

Thank you!

Issues with Server 2008 R2 GPO Settings Being Applied To Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7

We are working on a new domain and I'm trying to figure out how to populate the default Home page, Trusted Sites and the Proxy now that Microsoft has removed the IEM from the GPO's.

I have created a standalone policy that only has these items set in the User Configuration Preferences and the settings are not updating for my test user account on the test system.  I see the policy is being applied without any errors.  The only other GPO that is being applied to this system is the Default Domain Policy and it is at the default settings.

Why would Microsoft take away such a basic and fundamental administrative function?  I'm trying to figure this out before all support ends for the older versions of IE in January, 2016.  I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to get this configured so I don't have to touch every system.

IE11: picture drag-and-drop to Powerpoint 2010 not working

Hey,

I have Windows 7 x64 with SP1 and IE11. When I try to drag-and-drop pictures from Internet page to Powerpoint it's not working. Works fine with Word 2010, same page, same picture drops nicely... and again from Word the picture drag-drops nicely to Powerpoint sheet.

Can anyone give me a hint where to start digging? Is it a Powerpoint settings issue, or maybe a IE zone settings/options issues?

Close Program Error

Hello,

running IE 10 on Windows 8 on an office networked machine every time I close internet explorer it gives the close internet explorer has stopped working error, this also sometimes happens when IE is open. I have tried a whole host of fixes for this and it still does the same thing. Firewalls and AV are down and/or taken off reset IE, restored, check unchecked all related boxes in advanced options but still no joy.

This is very frustrating as we cannot find a fix for it, any ideas?

Many  thanks in advance
