IE 11.0.9600.17498 Update Version: 11.0.15. After Update Favorites are gone

After the update\restart, all of the favorites folders still exist, but the actual favorites inside are gone.

I used the Shadow Explorer tool and was able see that they were there yesterday, but not after the restart.  I was able to recover most using the tool, the favorites bar didn't have a shadow copy for some reason.  What happened to the favorites?  Why were they removed?  Is there an easier, more complete way to recover them?  Windows 8.1 on a Dell Latitude E7440 16gb Ram, 512GB SSD

Can't Upload large (up to 50MB) .wav files using IE 11

Hi,

I'm a website owner that allows my users to upload large music files to my site. I've noticed the uploads never work using IE. Is there a way to fix this? I know that Users can use Firefox on Windows and Safari & Firefox on OSX but IE always rejects the upload to my site. This has nothing to do with FTP, this is a system on the website where large music files (up to 50MB) are uploaded by members. If anyone knows how I can fix this problem it would be much appreciated. It's not a server issue as the uploads work in other browsers, so I assume it's a setting in IE.

My IE version is 11.0.9600

I'm technically inclined but when it comes to Browser settings or workflows I'm a novice, so if you have an answer on how I can fix this, it'd be much appreciated. Please go step by step as well.

I mistakenly installed google chrome (thinking i was getting google earth) and then uninstalled it. It corrupted IE8 so that i cannot use windows explorer to view our ftp site. (which means that i cannot use our site). Google chrome also corrupted windows outlook but i used a Microsoft fix to cure that.

When i am at our ftp site and i go to "page" and then go to "Open ftp site in windows explorer" i get the error message "This site cannot be opened in windows explorer" I'm using IE8.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

I have Windows 8: Now for my problem or problems. The little "line" that gives our sentence seems to have a mind of it's own. The next time it jumps around I will leave it that way so you will be able to see what I am talking about and the next is my "pointer" roams around and sometimes just slides across my screen. And now it will not do anything. Maybe it has ears and ey es. That
little "line" just jump into the middle of the eyes. Please can someone help me

When I click on a link that should open in a new tab (or right-click and select Open in new Tab), IE11 Opens a new tab but the screen is blank, the URL is about:blank and the tab title is 'Blank Page'.

The 'Metro' version of IE 11 still works fine, it's just the Desktop version which is broken.

I've tried all the fixes listed in the similar thread, but none have helped.

Hi,

On my fresh install of Windows 8 which is upgraded to 8.1, I see below prompt when I browse some sites:

"Do you want to open or save WolAuthenticationHandler.json from windows.microsoft.com?"

Some of those sites are famous sites and I have browsed them a lot before (like "stackoverflow.com").

Any solutions to this annoying issue?

Thanks.

EMIEsitelist and EMIEuserlist hidden directories and dat-files

EmieSiteList and EmieUserList

Microsoft Security - Privacy Concerns

I found two unknown directories on my PC in my user profile.  I have, so far, been unable to identify what put them there, which process owns them, and when I delete them (using Admin escalated privileges) they come back after a few minutes or immediately after reboot.

     c:\users\USERNAME\appdata\local\EmieSitelist\container.dat

     c:\users\USERNAME\appdata\local\EmieUserlist\container.dat

     C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\EmieSiteList\container.dat

     C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\EmieUserlist\container.dat

It was time, anyway, so I wiped the drive using factory low-level overwriting and performed a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro using a freshly downloaded ISO from Microsoft; one with an ESD distribution, written to a new just out-of-the-bedamned-hardshell-plastic flashdrive..

I just completed the clean install, in this sequence:

Boot to flashdrive and let Windows create partitions then install.  Reboot.  Check AppData; no folders found.

Activate.  Check AppData; no folders found.

Run first Update; install everything except Bing Bar and Desktop.    Check AppData; no folders found.  Reboot.  Check AppData; no folders found.

Add Feature Windows Media Center.  Check AppData; no folders found.  Reboot.  Check AppData; no folders found.

Run Updates a second time.  Check AppData; no folders found.  Reboot.  Check AppData; no folders found.

Remove MS C++ v12 x86 and x64 installed during Update.    Check AppData; no folders found.  Reboot.  Check AppData; no folders found.

Download from MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/default) Redistributables MS C++ x86 and x64, 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2012.4 versions, and install in sequence.  Check AppData after each install; no folders found.  Reboot after each install and check AppData; no folders found.

Run Updates a third time.  Response was No Updates Available.  Check AppData; no folders found.

Reboot.  Check AppData; all four sub-directories are now present.

These sub-directories and dat-files are not, so far, present in the AppData\Roaming directory.

There is nothing except Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro WMC and the 10 MS C++ packages installed; and MS Silverlight and AMD (videocard) Catalyst Control Center on the machine.  Windows Defender is present but is installed as part of Windows 8 and 8.1; and its' updates are provided via the MS Update process.  All - repeat ALL of these items are provided by Microsoft.

My questions are:  What are the Emie directories for; what program created them, and what does the various container.dat files "contain"?  And . . . if not absolutely necessary, How do I get rid of them and keep them from coming back?

First attempt at Solution:

Permissions are Full for System, USERNAME, and group Administrators.  The USERNAME is the Owner, and Effective Permissions for each of the 3 is Full.

Open Command Prompt (Admin)

C:\Windows\system32>cd\

C:\>attrib -r -h +s C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\EmieSiteList\container.dat

C:\>attrib -r -h +s C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\EmieSiteList

C:\>attrib -r -h +s C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\EmieUserList

C:\>attrib -r -h +s C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\EmieUserList\container.dat

C:\>attrib -r -h +s C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\EmieUserList\container.dat

C:\>attrib -r -h +s C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\EmieUserList

C:\>attrib -r -h +s C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\EmieSiteList

C:\>attrib -r -h +s C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\EmieSiteList\container.dat

C:\>

BOTH Files and Directories are no longer Hidden.  The Directories still show that the files within are READ-Only, but checking the actual file shows that it is no longer R-O.

I then deleted each of the 4 directories and  closed Windows (File) Explorer.

After less than 3 minutes reading pages on the internet (at Microsoft's Ask Windows Community), I opened Windows Explorer to check and found that the sub-directories had re-created themselves in both the Local and LocalLow directories.

The container.dat files were back in the Local sub-dir and after another few minutes, also back in the LocalLow sub-dir.

Both the sub-directories and the container.dat files are once again Super-Hidden.

Analysis using Windows utilities and SysInternals and NirSoft tools have not identified which object or process or service owns these objects.

ADDED:  My system is a home system, not connected to any work domain via VPN or otherwise.  WHY is the Windows Update Team not spending time to implement condition-and-error-checking to ensure that unneeded updates, services, and changes are not made without the system owner/operator permission?  Further, WHY is this particular issue so hard to find info about; what is being kept from customers and why?

Greetings:

I am trying to install the IE11 group policy templates to windows server 2008r2 per KB2841134. I have downloaded zip file, extracted files and used the elevated command prompt per the KB2841134 article:

    1. From an elevated command prompt, use the following command to update the inetres.admx file:

      • copy /y %WINDIR%\KB2841134\inetres.admx          %SYSTEMROOT%\PolicyDefinitions\inetres.admx

This fails with an "access denied" notation. running command prompt in elevated mode ("run as administrator"). I have unblocked the file as it was copied to the server from a workstation where the original download was performed.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    IE 11 TABS NOT WORKING

    Hello,

After hours of research and trying hundreds of "fixes", I am still having the issue of blank tabs.

So, MSN.com, I click on a link and its supposed to open a new tab for that link. When it opens the tab, the tab is blank. I literally have to right click on whatever link I wish to open, click on "Copy Shortcut", open a new tab and paste it in there.

I have tried reinstalling IE11, resetting all settings back to default, I have tried System Restore, I have tried opening IE with no add-ons, etc.  I have gone through hundreds of threads and tried hundreds of "solutions" but nothing has worked.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit SP1 with IE 11.  I have performed general system maintenance, ensured all updates were installed, etc.

I'm not the type of person to ask for help but I am really stumped on this issue. So, I need help.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Basic vs Negotiate Authentication.

    Good Day.

I am observing different behaviour on several client PCs; it looks like different versions of Ie.

if a website is protected as follows  - what are the decision matrices used by IE to select either Basic or Negotiate, assuming it can do both ?

I have some PCs on a domain,  W8+ie10 - uses basic,  W7+IE9 uses negotiate.  In all cases they are in Internet Sites with Integrated Authentication,   they do NOT have kerberos tickets for the domain being logged onto and we are using "Automatic Logon with Current User and Password".   It appears there is a setting or change in versions that forces IE to incorrectly select Negotiate when it should use basic.

The question is, what has changed ?  I tried ETS tracing on WinInet but all it told me was it had selected Negotiate or Basic, but not WHY.   Second Question : is there tracing logic to see why it is picking one or the other ?
