Removing a smartcard from system, closes IE10 down under Windows 7

0
0

We use Gemalto smartcard software on business computers, but when removing a smartcard from system, it always closes down Internet Explorer (versions 8 to 10).  Is there any fixes that can stop this from happening?  We don't want to lock the computer or shut it down when the card is removed, but just to leave it in the same state prior to smartcard insertion.

We had this issue with IE8 under XP, but a fix was found (KB2482017) for that so when the smartcard was pulled, IE8 would stay open.

Thanks for any advice\assistance in advance.

How to lockdown Inter Explorer? We would like all users to use IE 10 and not be able to upgrade

IE 11 won't load page after opening and closing it once or twice.

I am running IE 11 on Windows 7. After booting up the computer, I can open IE once or twice (by closing and opening it again). But if I try and close and open the program a third time (or sometimes the second time), IE opens but won't load a page. Furthermore, and very strangely, once this happens, I also can't open Chrome or Firefox - Chrome load also with a blank page and Firefox won't open at all. It is as if IE has taken control of Internet access but is frozen, and  the only solution to get a browser working again at that point is to restart the computer. Ghis just started happening a couple of days ago.

Outlook does seem to continue to work - it is just the browsers that are frozen.

I have already tried  deselecting IE 11 from the Windows list of program that you can get to from the Programs and Features control panel, restarting, then reselecting it and restarting again. I also tried resetting the IE settings form the Internet Options control panel. What I have not yet tried is completely uninstalling and then reinstalling IE.

I have Norton, and it has not found a virus, but maybe there is a corrupted file?

IE 11 - File Downloads - Disabled

I apologize if this has been answered already, but I cannot find anything on it.

I'm the admin at my company. We do not have any GPO's related to IE at this time (well, with 1 exception - but I'll explain).

I've had 1 user report that "suddenly" she can't download anything from websites on her machine in IE11.

I checked, and her Internet zone had "File Download" set to "Disable".

I set it to enable - and she could download.

Next day - same problem. I changed it again - and rebooted/powered off - and it stuck. But, next day - it sets itself back to Disable.

Today - I had the issue occur on my own pc - out of the blue.

Anyone have any ideas why? I have scoured the few GPO's we have - and I don't see anything related to IE in our GPO's.

As a "workaround" - I created a policy to enforce the "File download" setting in the Internet zone to "Enable" - but what in the heck is setting it to Disable???

Is it possible to uninstall IE 11 from Windows Server 2012 R2 and replace it with the latest version of IE 10?

Is it possible to uninstall IE 11 from Windows Server 2012 R2 and replace it with the latest version of IE 10? We have a remote desktop farm setup with 2012 R2 servers and we are publishing some web links that only work with IE10. As a result, we need to downgrade the remote desktop servers to IE10. I have a feeling that this isn't possible, but if I could get a definitive answer, I would greatly appreciate it, thank you!

According to the IE 9 help files, I should be able to move and resize the various IE 9 toolbars by clicking and draging on the "command bar separator" but this does not seem to work.

IE11 (desktop), Win8.1: Java not working / compatible since update!

0

Hi there,

Prior to the 8.1 update I was able to run java fine on the desktop IE10.  For work this is essential, as I access dropbox to upload files, etc.  I'd much rather keep using IE, however since 8.1 I get an alert that some of my add-ons are not compatible with the new enhanced security features, etc.

I turned off "Enhanced Protected Mode", toggled various settings, uninstalled/reinstalled latest java, etc.  Still nothing working.  I'd rather not get a new browser as I love IE... any solutions?

I'm running a 64bit OS & processor, high-end machine.

Many, many thanks!

Andrew

Java applet windows not opening in website

0

User is running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with IE10. She connects to a secure government website and logs into it. Once logged in, she clicks a link which opens a small popup IE window. A short time later, a couple of other small popup windows are supposed to open which are not IE windows but apparently java windows as the icon on the taskbar is the java icon and not the IE icon as for the main window and the first popup window. One of the java popup windows has links to click on to view various reports.

This user was having no problem performing the above. Then her PC had Office 2013 installed and she says some other updates though she has no idea what (I know IE was not updated). Since then, the java popup windows do not open, only the first IE popup window opens.

She can go to other Windows 7 Pro computers with IE10 and has no problem with the site and the popup windows. She can also use an XP system with IE8 and has no problem.

I have disabled the popup blocker (though I was sure that wasn't the problem), installed JRE6u45 since she already had JRE7u45. I've tried to match her security and advanced settings to another PC. I've done a complete IE reset. None of these things have worked.

I've never run into this type of problem before. I don't know if the problem is in IE or in Java or somewhere else. I'm really stumped on this one and I would appreciate suggestions as to where to look for the cause of this.

After last week's Windows 7 updates IE 10 displays blank pages

0

Hi,

After last week's windows updates we are experiencing issues in our web based systems using IE 10 (10.0.9200.17148). Sometimes pages just remains like transparently greyed out, other times it's just white page with stardard message "This page can't be displayed". Hitting F5 key usually brings back the screen but then again it might not work and user has to close entire IE session. Our webapps are written in Java.

It seems to happen only with IE, not with Chrome or Firefox, so I suspect this is IE specific problem. Our systems are designed to work with IE, so we can suggest users to work with other browsers but there might be some other problems, since we test only with IE.

Can't post the image of the updates currently, forum wants to verify my account.

Thanks in advance,

Meelis

IE 10 & 11 Proxy prompt behaviour

0
0

I am working for a client, and they have recently rolled out Windows 7 64-bit machines, with IE 10 on them (IE 11 is not yet an option due to incompatibility with Citrix Receiver 3.4 PNAgent and Mcafee VSE).

The proxy in use here is a Clearswift web gateway appliance (linux) using NTLM authentication to the proxy. This then forwards requests to our ISA 2006 server.

We have two sites, Site A and Site B. Each site has it own subnet, and it's own Clearswift web gateway.

We also have 4 remote locations, with their own subnet, but not separate site as far as AD sites and services are concerned. All these remote location's subnets fall into Site A. We have leased WAN lines to interconnect all these locations, with Bluecoat WAN accelerator at the remote locations.

Internet works fine at either site A or B. The problem arises at ALL the remote locations ONLY WHEN using the Windows 7 machines with IE 10. Users always get a popup box asking for authentication to the Clearswift proxy. This does not occur at Site A or Site B. And it does NOT occur on the old Windows XP machines with IE 8 at the remote locations. And it also DOES NOT occur with firefox at the remote locations. I have tested with IE11 and the problem still exists.

So in short, if the following happen:

1. Windows 7 PC with IE10/11

2. Remote location, NOT site A or site B

3.Attempt to browse internet via IE10, using Clearswift web gateway as proxy

You will always get the authentication pop up box, unless you:

1. Use firefox

2. Use the ISA 2006 as proxy instead, skipping the Clearswift web gateway

The Clearswift web gateway is in use due to company policy that wishes to block inappropriate material. And firefox is not deployed to local machines again as part of company policy, none of which I am either allowed to change or even paid to.

I have opened a support call with Clearswift but I doubt I will get anywhere.

I can confirm that the Clearswift web gateway (which is just a linux appliance running on vmware) uses NTLM authentication.

The only thing I have found is this:

https://support.microsoft.com/kb/976918?wa=wsignin1.0

Which I have tried to no avail.

The only other variable that has not been accounted for is the Bluecoat SG210 WAN Accelerator at each of these remote locations. The two remaining tests for me to do are:

1. Bypass the WAN accelerator

2. Turn off the need for authentication on the clearswift web gateway

I would be keen to know if anyone else has had similar issues.

IE10 wont allow me to open FTP files in Explorer View

0
0
I have an FTP internally that is used to host PDF & HTML files. Previously all users could log onto this FTP site and double click on any file content to have it open within the default browser. We use FTP in explorer view so each user can set their terminals to save their passwords, hence they log straight into their root folder on the FTP - if we use the FTP list view in the browser this doesnt happen, meaning user 9999 has a long way to scroll to find their documents!
This has always worked absolutely fine until IE10 has been installed, now any user with IE10 cant open files straight from the FTP via the Explorer view. The file doesnt download, the destination file ends up at 0KB so just doesnt open in the browser. Roll back to IE9 fixes the problem. Using Chrome as the default browser fixes the problem. Using the FTP list view also works fine (however we cant use this since it wont default to users root folder that they have access to)
Ive attempted everything i can think of without luck, its looking like we're going to have to block IE10 or switch to Chrome. Basically opening files from any FTP site (have tested others) in explorer view with IE10 installed just isnt working. You can however copy the document to the local machine then open ok..
Any ideas, what am i missing here!?
Cheers!!!

accelerators not appearing on right click

Hi

I have IE11 and windows 8.1.

After the last round of updates I no longer have any options

for using the accelerators when highlighting text and right clicking.

All I get is the copy/paste menu. I have unistalled IE 11 and reinstalled it to no avail.

All the accelerators are in the manage Add on window. I don't know what

has happened. The accelerators  are the only feature in IE that make it worth having.

Any help would be appreciated

thanks

Hi,

We are performing bulk deployments for Windows 8.1 Update using Config manager 2012 R2. Its x64 OS deployment.

I am looking for a way to make windows 8.1 Update IE browser as a default browser for all users.

Any local group policy or batch file or any script that would do this, would be great.

Can anyone pls. some script\pointers on how to achieve this? Thanks

Difference between IE8 for XP and IE 8 for Win 7

Hi,

I have a pc with windows XP and  IE8 (latest patch) AND another pc with WIN 7 and IE8 (latest patch).

The problem is this:

(Win 7 / IE 8) When i click a specific button in a web page it's start a new windows with an Activix program. CORRECT

(Win xp / IE 8) When i click on the same button he dont open a new windows that will run an Activix program.

In both pc i have exactly the same configuration (allow activix....the site is in the trusted site and ALL setting are enabled)

I haven't antivirus on both and i'm totally sure that the activix program doesn't is the problem.

So why in Win 7 i have the pop-up and in win XP no??? What difference there are? I have the same settings and program installed.

Thanks !!!

Internet Explorer Intranet Security Zone not Keeping Sites

0
0

At my work, whenever we log into sharepoint for the first time we have to actually input our name and password. After logging in, we add our sharepoint site to the local intranet security zone so that it automatically will sign us in from that point on. However, whenever I try to add the site to my personal local intranet zone (as in the one on my computer, as this has worked on many others) it does not stay. As soon as I exit the window where I added the site, it is completely erased from the face of the planet. I also have tried adding it to the Trusted Sites zone, but that doesn't seem to be working either.

In an attempt to fix this problem, I have looked at all of my settings, including advanced, but have not seen anything that looks particularly wrong. Being as this didn't seem to be the problem, I uninstalled and reinstalled IE 11. This still warranted no change. Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone at least know what I can do to fix it?

Automatic prompting for file downloads in IE9

0

We have our own internal program running here at our company that only we have access to inside the network via the web browser.  Recently we upgraded from IE8 and IE9 and noticed that now when we click links within our program to open .txt files we are now prompted asking if we want to open or save the document.  I've noticed in IE9 the option to enable or disable "Automatic prompting for file downloads" has disappeared.  I understand the reason behind this as to protect from malicious code or programs executing in the background without users knowledge.  My question is does anyone know of a way to enable this for example on trusted sites only?  I don't want to open it up full blown, but would be great if I could do this on a site by site basis.  Since this is an internal application we access via the browser it has really thrown a wrench in the work environment for our users, even though it is just clicking one extra button.

P.S.  I'm aware of the right-clicking the file you recently downloaded and unchecking the option to automatically open those file types, but that's only an option for specific file types, such as .zip files.  Its not an option for .txt files.

Bypass Downloader to open .jpg

Have an enterprise system where the UI runs in IE.  I am trying open a link that points to a .jpg file.  IE automatically opens up the Download Manager and asks if I want to save the file.  after I save I can open the file.  How can I bypass the download manager and just have IE or any other program open the .jpg?

Error on job boards with IE11 "sorry something went wrong and word was unable to start (24)" - OK with Firefox/Chrome

I use IE11 to look for new contract work. The jobsites prompt me for my cv which I then find using the dialog they put up.

I now always get the error "sorry something went wrong and word was unable to start (24)". But totally OK with Firefox/Chrome. I can start Word OK any other way.

So is it something wrong with IE? I have tried resetting to default and disabling as a feature and re-enabling to get it reinstalled. No change.

Plenty of posts with the same error but seem to be for using Word at all. I have no problem with Word itself. And the solutions I have tried have not worked. ideas?
