How to run IE with administrator privileges on limited user account?

$

Hello,

I have a domain user who needs to access a certain web application on the internet using IE and to do so we have to add this website to IE Trusted Sites Zone and also allow Pop-ups, the issue now is that the domain user has a limited account on this PC (Windows 8.1) and changing these settings is not available. I only have (General-Connections-Programs) taps available under IE Internet Options for this user.

Duplicated proxy exceptions cause strange issue

Hi Guys,

We have some thin client applications, which run within our local intranet zone (send http queries to a local server - ex. "ourserver01.ourprefix.oursuffix") and should have no communicate with our proxy.

If the proxy exceptions list contains only "*.ourprefix.oursuffix" everything work as expected, but if I append an other exception ended with the same ".ourprefix.oursuffix" for example "*.ourprefix.oursuffix;ourserver02.ourprefix.oursuffix" the client starts to send packages to our proxy, which causes issues.

I know if I use wildcard (*) other exceptions are unnecessary to use, but I would like to know the reason of this behaviour.

Thanks

Jim

Requirements For Logging Into Wireless Captive Portals With IE11?

$

There are some laptops that we are going to set up to very locked down. The users will be restricted to only using VPN and RDP on these systems.

However, the users need the ability to join free and paid public wireless hot spots that have captive portals (Starbuck, McDonalds's, GoGo etc.) so they can get online to connect to VPN remotely when travelling without a portable hot spot.

The Internet Zone in IE on these laptops will be set to High instead of default Medium-High.

Is there any reason captive portal logins would not work with IE Security set to high?

If that could cause login to fail, are there any dedicated wireless-joining apps that would allow users to sign into captive portals without using a full-featured browser?

IE 11 not sending cookies in requests

$

This seems pretty straightforward but I cannot understand why IE11 is refusing to send cookies to my web app.

I have set the privacy controls to accept all cookie. In the dev tools when I trace the network requests I can explicitly see the cookie in the 'Cookies' section of the dev tools, so I know IE is aware it should be sending a cookie, but on subsequent requests it fails to include the cookie info.

Here is a network trace of the issue. Can anyone help me understand why IE will not send the cookie that is being set by the server?

thanks

IE11: Unable to enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2

I have recently been testing Windows in FIPS-compliance mode for compliance with a common security policy mandated by a state government agency.  This included my assigned laptop, which is running Windows 8.1 Update Enterprise x64.

As part of the test, I enabled the "System cryptography: Use FIPS 140 compliant cryptographic algorithms, including encryption, hashing and signing algorithms" both in local security policy on my machine and later via a test GPO.  Since that test has completed, I have deleted the GPO and disabled the setting in local security policy.  I've also rebooted several times to verify the setting is truly disabled and also tried creating a GPO that forces that setting to disabled.

What I am seeing is, since performing these tests, I can no longer enable TLS 1.1 or 1.2 on IE11.  They were previously enabled.  The settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 are all grayed out.  SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TLS 1.0 are checked (and cannot be unchecked) and TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are unchecked (and cannot be checked).

Suspecting group policy, I put my user account and computer account in an OU that has group policy inheritance blocked and made a GPO that only forces SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 on for my user account and applied it to my test GPO.  The particular setting is Policies | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer | Internet Control Panel | Advanced Page | Turn off encryption support | Use SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2.  I ran gpupdate /force, rebooted, checked local security policy to confirm that my laptop is not in FIPS mode, then checked the IE11 advanced options and there was no change.

How can I get TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 back?

IE 10 will not install in Windows 7 64 bit SP1

I go past the prompt that says "restarting programs".  Then the installation fails.  The updates are all up to the minute.

Please help me install IE 10

EPM (Enhanced Protection Mode)

I am using IE9 (Win7--64-bit). Why am I being asked to Disable EPM in Internet Explorer?  EPM was introduced in IE10 and 11!! I did disable Protection Mode in my settings, but each time I attempted to open a pdf document, the "...Disable EPM in Internet Explorer..." message would surface.  Any nuggets of wisdom?  I do not want to use IE10 nor IE 11.

Internet Exporer 11: Disable search from address bar (entirely)

$

When we try to use internal websites (sites like hostname.some.subdomain.com:NNNN/some/path/ ) internet explorer 11 shows autocomplete entries for previous visits to those websites, but, when selected, it then searches bing for those URLs, and that makes very little sense to do.

it's an address bar. it's where addresses are typed in. I don't want internal website addresses (frankly, any website addresses) to turn into a bing search. I don't search from the address bar. Ever. In previous versions I could disable that, and in this version that option seems to have been replaced with "go directly if a single word is typed in [intranet site like "home" or "intranet" or "sharepoint", etc.] ", but that doesn't disable the search feature enough to avoid still continuing to search when internal websites are entered/selected in the address bar.

Is there some other place to disable the search, so that addresses typed into the address bar work?

IE 10 won't load content into new tabs opened by links

$

I've recently 'upgraded' to IE 10 on multiple computers, differing manufacturers, both 32 and 64 bit all running Win 7 (home or pro), AND, I'm experiencing the same exact problem on all of them.

When I click on a link in say Gmail, or facebook, and the usual action would be to have the browser automatically open a new tab and display the content, now nothing happens. The tab opens (in the case of gmail 3 tabs open) with the same URL displayed as the original page, but it is utterly blank. And there it sits. No 404, not message, just blank. Right clicking on a link to choose to open in a new tab has the same result. If I paste an URL in the new tab it opens just fine.

It is the process of opening the tab and displaying the content from a link that fails. This is a deal breaker as it makes the experience so tedious as to be unusable.

I've never experienced this before, not even with the IE10 preview. The fact that I'm experiencing it on multiple non-identical computers makes me suspicious. I see others have experienced this in IE 9 and from what I can see there is no solution except to switch to chrome.

Anyone have any ideas?

Need help turning off "File Download - Security Warning" when clicking a link on kiosk web page

$

I am developing a Kiosk using HTML and IE 8 for an interactive display that allows users to navigate various information screens and run interactive powerpoints and videos. I am using Windows 7 32 bit, IE 8 and for videos I am using VLC (it seems to be the one that works best for my videos, Media Player was too jerky and dull). Problem is that I get these annoying pop ups when trying to play my videos. I am using a batch file to run them so VLC opens full screen and quits back to the link page when the video finishes. Everything works, but it would be nice to turn off the warning. Nothing I have found on Microsoft.com works, it just causes more security pop ups. I have a program that will lock things down once I get them running right, so I really don't need Windows or Microsoft security. And the kiosk will have no access to my network or the internet.

Here's my batch file:

@echo off
set "file=C:\VC Touch Screen\Turtle Movie\PAIS.avi"
start "" /w /max "c:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" "%file%" vlc --fullscreen vlc://quit

Hopefully someone else has dealt with this annoyance from Microsoft and knows how to get rid of it and without causing other crap to pop up. It's the only thing holding me up from deploying my kiosk solution.

Export to Excel issue after upgrading to IE11

$

Hi All,

Our organization recently upgraded our Internet Explorer browser from 8 to 11 on Win7, still in pilot phase.

One of the issues that we are currently experiencing is that after the upgrade  the Export to Microsoft Excel is no longer functioning as expected. This was working fine on IE8.We are on Office 2007.

What happens now on IE11 is that when you select a table on a web-page and do an Export to Excel, a new window pops up and the address bar stays blank with just http:/// and "Page cannot be displayed" error. What's seems to be happening is that for some reason, it is not populating the address bar with the URL.

Anyone experienced similar issues and got a fix? Much appreciated.

Regards,

Ochen

Why is every scan I do with malwarebytes showing a PUP from MS that I never agreed to have installed.

For instance, I use Startpage and the actual site is https://www.startpage.con/eng yet, when I enter this into my homepage and search engine, it suddenly changes to "do search" and now, speed bit and after running this by the owners of startpage they tell me this is not their doing.  It w/b considered malware or spyware.  I do realize MS knows this is a private search engine which protects the identity of the user but why should you all care about our losing that protection and infiltrate the program to deceptively change it?  Also, I have a private firewall which gets attacked and changed all of the time adding processes I see as very suspicious so I block or delete them (which should be the end of them) yet MS being the only possible entity capable of getting in and past these safeguards, choses to reintroduce them to my system, with no explanation in properties, no access without changing ownership and sometimes no image name or version indicated next to the application which makes me even more suspicious.  I would appreciate knowing what it is doing and why and who put there.  These are reasonable questions for the owner of the computer and windows operating system that was a considerable investment made by THEM (not YOU) with the understanding that their privacy was important to you and would be a priority.  Now, I have literally blocked IE and speedbit(?),sba.exe,sbi2.exe among others and am using firefox yet they seem to return daily in my processes anyway and with every cleaning I get quite a few temp internet files and cookies etc deleted from IE acct (which shouldnt even be running) AND, as mentioned above, with EVERY malwarebytes scan, I get a PUP or spyware which comes directly from a MS program or update....So, tell me, TRUTHFULLY and without all the BS,  WTF is up?

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and when I updated to Internet Explorer 11 when I click on the icon all I get is the swirl for 2 seconds and then nothing.  I removed IE 11 and reverted to IE 10 and the same thing happens.  Google Chrome is working fine. Any suggestions? I have tried it without the add-ons and get the same result.  Nothing else has changed.

 Hi All,

Our organisation has decide to upgrade the Internet explorer from 9 to 11. Currently IE 9 is installed on Windows 7 SP1 machines.

We are planning to deploy it Via SCCM 2012, and from AD front we have mullti domain.

So would like to know more about enterprise mode activation via group policy on multi domain. Any links or article which can help me for deployment of IE11, would be helpful.

Thanks HA
