I am on Windows 8.1, IE 11, and Yahoo has somehow made itself my default search provider.  When I open a new tab, it automatically loads.  In Manage Add-ons, I have Google set as my default provider and have checked "prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider". Yahoo is not even there.  I have run my anti-virus and anti-malware scans and removed anything that was a nuisance or threat. I went to Programs and Features on the Control Panel to see if anything was there that should not be (there was nothing). After doing all that, I restarted my computer and when I went to IE, Yahoo still comes up.  How can I get rid of it? 

IE 10 will not install in Windows 7 64 bit SP1

I go past the prompt that says "restarting programs".  Then the installation fails.  The updates are all up to the minute.

A user wants to prevent IE from playing sounds while not interrupting sounds for the entire system.  We've instructed him to do the following:

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Tools
3. Internet Options
4. Advanced tab
5. Under, Settings, scroll down to the Multimedia section (about 2/3 the way down)
6. Uncheck Play sounds in webpages
7. Apply
8. OK
9. Restart IE (for good measure)

Yet, after making the change, when visiting sites like this, this, this or this (and many others, like sites that have auto-playing advertisements or news clips), the sound still plays.  I've been able to reproduce this as well.

I checked "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Play_Background_Sounds" to confirm the REG_SZ value was "no", which it is.  (Although I'm curious why this page says its a DWORD...)

So I have a handful of questions:

1. If this is normal or expected behavior, where's the Microsoft KB or TechNet artciel that explains why that is so? 
2. Assuming what was stated in this post is true, where is an actualrecent Microsoft KB or TechNet article that explains what that setting will and will not control?
   Because this page & this page are dated, and this page doesn't have any details of substance on the setting.
   

-I've downloaded the latest ADMX for IE and placed it into our central ADMX store.  
-I've configured the policy for compatibility view and linked it to a users OU.
- Logged into a workstation and verified the policy was applied via rsop,msc

The compatibility view entries do not show up in the list but according to post I've seen this is by design (which is fine).  My question is, is there some type of indicator that a site is in compatibility view other than just knowing it is added in the list.

All of this was done on an up-to-date Windows 7 64bit machine with IE 11.

It seems that Microsoft lost focus on a large group of people using W2008R2 still awaiting for a solution
to implement IE10/IE11 in their Enterprise environment.

In short:
- Internet Explorer 10 cookies and roaming profiles or not working on W2008R2
- (hot)fixes have been provided, working for some systems but not for W2008R2

All you can read, including tests from people, also saying that it's not working, on this page.

Hello, I work as an IT guy, and this is the first time I cant solve something, or Im rly stupid with this or its an IE11 problem.

Im running windows 8.1 with IE11, I wish I could downgrade!

The problem: While opening a website (insurance) when I click some elements to open a popup into the same ie tab it "loads" but it does not open/show anything.

This is the element in this website that does not work. I tried a lot of things... sfc /scannow, reinstalling java, reseting IE11 settings, etc etc etc

I WOULD LOVE SOME HELP!

Have a problem with IE 11 and maby lower versions. Know that older versions work.

The problem is that flash objects does not show correct height.

The code above is situated in a table without specified height or width.

IE will read the flashcode % value on width but not the height.

If I change % to px then it will accept it. Width will function with both % and px.

It does not seem to work setting height and width value to the table either.

But if I put the flash code inside a div, where i specify width and height to 100% then the flash object will show the same as in any other browser and plattform.

Cant see anything but an IE fault, because it has been working in older versions of IE and never (ok can't back that up but not in recent years anyway) been a problem in other web browsers.

I want to let the website pull-refresh function work, although it is working fine in IOS and Android, but NOT IE11 on WP8.1. When I pull the site up, all the site will be controlled, and the pull-gesture will not work. Any idea?

We have developed web portal using classic ASP and java/vb script.  We used to run it absolutely fine using Internet Explorer 8.  Now we just migrated to Internet Explorer 11.  But after that no java script functionality is working in our web portal.

Our web server is configured on windows 2003 server and IIS version 6.0 and has .net Framework (Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727).  

Could you please suggest us that is there any workaround to this? 

I Have been trying for 2 months to solve the problem with Internet Explorer 11 and games on Facebook. Each time I click on a game I get a login page which flashes on and off. The only way to stop it is to close Internet Explorer. I contacted Facebook and put a report in and I am still waiting after 2 months for a reply. I have since removed IE 11 and also IE 10 which makes it I am now using IE 9. I have reset IE 9 to no avail and I am now at a loss as to what the problem is. I am using Windows 7 on a pc.

My computer is a classified side computer. I need to install IE10 on that computer. I burned the CD for IE 10 and start installing IE 10, but got a message saying "Internet explorer needs an update before installing"

Go online and install the required update, then return to the internet explorer installation page and run set up again.

I cannot go online on classified computer. is there any way, I can get the update on a computer that is not connected to the internet.

any help will be highly appreciated.

Is it possible to enalbe a specific ActiveX, for exampe: ActiveXObject("Outlook.Application")?

I know there is an option in the Internet Explorer options named:

Initialize and script ActiveX not marked as safe for scripting

However, our security team, does not allow us to enable this option due to security issue becuase it enables all kind of ActiveX, but if we find how to enable a specific ActiveX, it will be ok from their side.

I am trying to open an ftp site in internet explorer 8 and when I enter the address and click enter, it prompts me for the user id and password. Once I enter that and click OK, it gives me the following error :

An error occurred opening that folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to access that folder.

Details:

The operation timed out

however when I try the same thing on the server that has the ftp site configured, everything works perfect. I just cannot connect to it from my client work station. I diabled, antivus software on client and on ftp server, still got the same error.

When I use IE and going to some websites (Google, NBA.COM, etc) I get a web page error window" Do you want to debug this web page" with some kind of function error. Each time the detail of the error be different. I changed the Internet options security to default level and in advance section check the not to display script error option. However after going to some sites, I still get the same error and I noticed that after getting error, the security setting automatically changed to custom, from the default which I set by myself. I tried to reset IE, still get the same . I tried to do a system restore , But it fails

My company is facing problems from using IE from last 3 days. Our HR manager downloaded one software from softonic and when it was done, we checked IE, it was with full of toolbars. Can anyone helps us how to get rid of that ? Also advertisements increased.

I no longer have the ability to view users web history since the onset of IE 10. The index.dat file structure has been replaced by the WebCacheV01 database structure for IE 10 and 11. I have been researching what container stores the user's history of visited URLs for about a week. I've been able to successfully extract the locked WebCacheV01.dat file as well as view the contents of the database. The problem is I have yet to find which contain actually stores the sites visited. Can someone shed some light on this? I'm running a Windows 7 ENT O.S. with I.E. 11.

Any thoughts?
