Trusted Sites "Require Server Verification (https:) for all sites in this zone"

I have to uncheck the "Require Server Verification" checkbox for Trusted Sites but it's greyed out. I've tried changing the registry Flag settings for Zone 2 to 67 (Decimal) to force the uncheck but it's not doing anything. Am I missing something or is there some other way to uncheck that? I've tried both 71 and 67 and the check box remains.

The out of date ActiveX control blocking (KB2976627) does not work

Hello All,

I am testing the out of date ActiveX control blocking (KB2976627) in an AD domain which runs Windows Server 2003 domain functional level with Windows Server 2003, 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 as domain controller servers.

I have upgraded the IE template in my domain fromhttps://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40905 and the additional GPO settings for the out of date ActiveX control blocking are available.

My PCs have been installed with MS14-051 (KB2976627). IE 9 has been installed on my PCs (Windows 7 Pro SP1).

Based on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2991000/en-gb, the out-of-date ActiveX controls should start being blocked on September 9, 2014. However, browsinghttp://www.javatester.org/version.html on my PCs still display the Java version correctly which is Java Version 1.6.0_32.

My PC does have %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\VersionManager\versionlist.xml.

I have not configured any GPO settings for the out of date ActiveX control blocking.

The problem is that I can access the Java based websitehttp://www.javatester.org/version.html.The website should be blocked by the out of date ActiveX control because my PC has old Java runtime version 6 update 32.

Do I need do any further configurations for the out of date ActiveX control blocking?

Thanks in advance.

IE11 proxy prompt with squid

Hello,

Recently we upgraded our IE to 11 on our servers.

We have a mixture of W2K8R2 and W2K12R2 running. Ever since we upgraded our IE from 10 to 11 we have problems when using our squid proxy.

IE11 keeps prompting for credentials.

This is the setting in squid for NTLM

auth_param ntlm program /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --helper-protocol=squid-2.5-ntlmssp
auth_param ntlm children 20
auth_param ntlm keep_alive on

What could be the problem?

Internet Explorer 8 - (Not Responding) - How to turn on Logging

$

Informational:   Windows 7 x86 workstations, 46 with IE 8, 6 with IE 9 --------  Brand new workstations, 4GB RAM.

We currently have roughly 50 users at our offsite call center location that have been having ongoing issues with Internet Explorer 8 and 9 going into a "Not Responding" state.  These users have between 4 and 6 open IE tabs at any given time.  Originally we thought the issue was related to one of their web applications, and thought that an upgrade to IE 9 would do the trick.  We tested this on several workstations, and we ended up with the same results (Internet Explorer Not Responding).  I should add that Internet Explorer never fully crashes, it just greys out the screen for a minute or 5 minutes, and then goes back to normal.

We have also done some digging around with the addons (e.g. Java, Adobe, etc...), however, it is difficult to test this, as these settings are all unchangeable due to applied GPOs.  Adding to the problem, is that it happens at different times during the day, following no pattern.

So this brings me to the core of this post.  How do I turn on Internet Explorer logging (as in, Event Viewer, logging all events related to Internet Explorer)?  I've looked in the event viewer, under Applications and Services Logs, and there are no events.  I've tried creating a custom view, and logging by source "IEFRAME" from the drop down menu.  That has yielded no results. I also downloaded the ACT 5.6 toolkit and have run the IECTT, and am coming up with nothing there as well.

I have not ruled out other potential variables in all of this (e.g. workstation image, WAN traffic, other networking issue), however, it would be extremely helpful if I could get some sort of information out of Internet Explorer as to what is causing it to hang/freeze on 50 people simultaneously.  The fact that it does it simultaneously to 50 people has caused me to believe it is something network related, but through the troubleshooting process, I asked users to attempt to use Firefox, which of course didn't freeze (couldn't be that easy).  If IE could give me a clue as to the problem, perhaps I could track down the root cause.

As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Nate

Slow Sharepoint server 2003

Most of my branch offices have t1, for these sites my sharepoint site loads very slow. If the key HKCU\Software \Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main \NoUpdateCheck is set to 1, would this cause Sharepoint 2003 to open slow?

ActiveX update doesn't take effect without restarting IE11 after installation of KB2977629.

After installation of KB2977629, ActiveX update by changing version in object tag doesn't take effect without restarting IE11.

This happens only in case the page includes ActiveX controll event handler.

I don't know why this is only published in Japanese but

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2864032/ja

says the same thing about IE10.

When I found this article at the beggining of this year, I was suffered by this but it was solved with workaround code there.

But this time, it is IE 11 under workaround code is applied.

How to force Internet Explorer 11 reinstallation after failure (detection issue)?

$

Hi,

I got a problem with the Internet Explorer 11 installation I received through Windows Update. It is on aWindows 7 x64 SP1 computer.

The installation failed, and Internet Explorer 11 doesn't appear under the Show Installed Updates section of Programs and Features.

Because of that, Windows Update tries to re-run the update, but keeps failing everytime.

My first idea was to download the IE 11 installer for Windows 7 x64 from Download Center and launch it; it fails with the error message "A more recent version of Internet Explorer is already installed".

When launching IE, effectively, the version is 11.0, but if I try to install an update for IE, like an IE 11 language pack or just a security update, it fails saying it doesn't apply to this system.

So basically, the IE installer detection logic says IE 11 is installed, while Windows Update says it is not, as for other updates related to IE 11. I have a tendency to believe Windows Update since it doesn't appear in Show Installed Updates.

I tried removing the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer registry key and its equivalent under SYSWOW64, no result. I also deleted the iexplore.exe file under Program Files\Internet Explorer and Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer, no result. Removing those files is not easy since you have to take ownership on each of them because of the default permissions that are very tight.

Does someone knows the detection logic of the IE 11 installer and tell me what I must do to force it to run and reinstall everything? Or someone who got the same issue and was able to recover from it?

I repeat, no need to tell me that I must remove it from Installed Updates under Programs and Features first, it is not there and this is probably why Windows Update tries to reinstall it every time.

Tnx for help

Patrick

Corrupt mpg2splt.ax causing KB2670838 install to fail

I initially posted my problem on the answers.microsoft.com forum but was directed here instead. The posting there is at

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie11-windows_7/internet-explorer-11-will-not-install-due-to/4d410686-a159-4121-bc64-1035c46988d5

Trying to update IE 9 to IE 11 on a Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit laptop which is on our corporate network.  Windows update history listed the IE 11 update as failed so I tried the manual installer (IE11-Windows6.1-x64-en-us.exe).  It failed also, with these two events in the event viewer: "Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems." and "Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80073aa2: Update for Windows (KB2670838)."

So, I downloaded the standalone installer for KB2670838 and attempted installation several times, with anti-virus off, clean boot, safe mode, using the administrator account, etc, which all failed. I also tried the IE10 standalone installer but it fails also.

At this point I ran SFC /scannow and the log file shows only one file that it could not repair:

I ran SFC a few more times but it still is unable to fix the mpg2splt.ax file. I tried replacing that file with a known good copy from another Win7 Pro SP1 64-bit computer and one that I pulled from a Win7 Pro SP1 installation disk but SFC and the KB2670838 installer still fail. From my research it seems this particular file is related to DirectX, but DXdiag does not report any issues. It seems that DirectX on Windows 7 is integrated so there is no easy way to uninstall/reinstall it to try to fix the corrupt file.

After hitting a dead-end in my troubleshooting efforts I tried system restore but it failed also.  System restore had actually been turned off. There is plenty of hard disk space so I don't know if the user turned it off or something else happened there.

I have not yet tried a repair install because Windows installation disks did not come with the laptop (just a recovery partition).  I have a Win7 Pro SP1 disk from another computer but I don't know if I can use that or not?  Everything else seems to work fine on the computer and even IE9 works despite the corrupt file so I would like to fix it if possible.

our domain.sharepoint.com or Onedrive page, will continually cause the IE tab to crash and try to reopen over and over until it says "we were unable to return you to sharepoint.com".

*.office.com; *.sharepoint.com; *office365.com; *.lync.com; *.microsoftonline.com; *.windowsazure.com are all added to the trusted sites list.

sharepoint.com is added to the compatibility list.

IE is set to the default browser.

Tried loading the page on a new user account, still same problem. sites work fine in Mozilla and Chrome.

All updates have been installed for windows 8.1, to-date.

General settings are to check for newer versions of stored pages each time i visit the webpage.

i get the same IE errors on multiple O365 accounts, on two different local machine user accounts.

The sharepoint guys are saying its an IE issue, so thats why im here asking, what else i can try. i hope i havent left nothing out that ive tried.

Have Pinned site shortcut open in full screen mode (not maximized)

Hello.  I'm currently in the testing phases of migrating all of our users from a locally installed client version of their email to a web version of their email.  I'd really like the webmail version to look more like an application than a website.  Is there any way to make the pinned site shortcut (not all sites) open in full screen mode when double clicked?  Another wish list item would be for the URL field to be removed from it as well.  Chrome provides this functionality by making a site into an application, but then any link you click on within your email opens up in Chrome and thats a deal breaker for me.  Does anyone know if this is possible in internet explorer 9?  Thanks in advance

WPAD location in Windows 8.1

We are retiring our TMG server for internet proxy.  Currently we use WPAD with DHCP option 252 and it has been working well.  However we want to slowly transition over to the new system which does not use proxy.  I have removed the DHCP option for group however they are still going through our proxy server instead of just using the default route for HTTP and HTTPS traffic.

For Windows 7 I've created a script and that seems to work on removing wpad but it does not work in Windows 8.1 mainily because I seem to not find the location of the wpad.dat file.  Doea anyone know where IE places the file?

Thanks!

404 Error - Webpage cannot be Found

Hello,

Users in my organization experience HTTP 404 errors when viewing internal websites with IE 11.  These sites can be SharePoint 2013 sites and htm pages on other IIS servers (non-SharePoint).  These errors occur when switching back and forth between the sites. All URLs are correct. You have to hit the fresh button a few times or wait 5 to 10 seconds before the site comes up.

If you use Google Chrome, you don't experience any of this.  SharePoint sites and other websites come up just fine with no HTTP 404 errors.

What could be the problem?

Thanks for any advice on what could be going on.

Hello,

For one of our project, we are trying call a Rest web service using java script that is returning JSON response.

However, we are using XMLHttpRequest to call the web service but every time we call the webservice we are getting a security pop up.

The application we are using is accessed by many users and it is not possible to change the 'Access Data Sources Across Domain' Check box setting under Miscellaneous in Security settings.

We are using IE 8 or 9.

Can anyone help us on how to suppress this using java script or jquery without changing the setting?

Regards,

Shambo Maitra.
