Group Policy for IE 9, 10, 11

We have a mix of IE 9, 10, 11. When we deployed IE 10, 11 we updated ADM;s to coonfigure IE 10, 11 group policy.

Now we have separate policies for IE 9, and IE10,11 as some settings change. However I have few questions:-

1. If i want to change IE9 GPO settings, how can i do? As on all the machines when i open GPMC, it shows IE10, 11 settings and not IE maintenance thing.

2. What is the significance of Require server verifications for all sites in this zone in the IE trusted sites? Also, it is checked by default and how can we change it using group policy?

Please share your expert views on either or both questions. Appreciate any help!!

Setting IE search providers via GP

Good Afternoon,

All my users are on a Win7x64 platform with a Win 2008 R2 STD domain controller. I am trying to set google as the default search provider for all our users via group policy.

I have followed the steps in the following article -

http://blogofanitadmin.blogspot.de/2011/05/group-policy-changing-default-search.html

I have gone through the whole article and have also adhered to the comments/feedback at the bottom of the blog. Despite this, after doing a gpupdate /force on my test machine and restarting it the default search provider is still Bing. I really dont want to have to go around to each machine manually and set google as the default search provider.

Just a little further information - the policy is setup with following settings -

User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer

  • Add a specific list of search providers to the users search provider list (ENABLED)
  • Turn off the Security Settings Check feature (ENABLED)

and

User Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Classic Administrative Templates (ADM) > Windows Components > Internet Explorer

  • Select search providers to be included in policy based search list (ENABLED)

After applying the policy I run gpupdate /force on the test machine and restart it. I then run RSOP on the test machine and then drill down as follows -

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer

Neither of the settings that I have enabled above are present.

Can anyone tell me where I might be going wrong.

IE 11 Enterprise Mode on Remote Desktop Server

Hi,

I've enabled IE11 Enterprise Mode and setup an XML-file on a fileshare which I've created using "Enterprise Mode Site List manager".

When I logon with my test-user and launc IE, after aprox 65 seconds I get the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\internet explorer\Main\EnterPriseMode\ CurrentVersion string updated to the current version of my XML-file. I can then browse the sites and verify that Enterprise Mode is enabled for the sites that I have specified in my XML-file

The problems I'm facing is that if I logout my user and then log back on again to the server and start IE and brwose the sites Enterprise Mode is no longer enabled for them. Also if my user has manually specified some sites for enterprise mode this does not live between sessions.

Where in the profile does IE EM store the data over which websites that are supposed to be in entprise mode? I've found under AppData\Local\ EmieSiteList and EmieUserList but theese 2 catalogs only contains "container.dat" which is 0 KB?

Anyone know? Has anyone gotten IE EM to work in RDS?

HTA file will not run correctly

I am having a problem with launching a 3rd party application that uses .HTA files.

My computer is a 64-bit, Win 7 Professional w/SP1, IE8.  The application requires Java 6.14 minimum.  It is a clean install - OS with required device drivers, Java, and the 3rd party application.   (I have an older 32bit Win7 computer that I have been able to test with, and the application works perfectly on it).

After installing the application, I get the following error message when I launch it: "Make sure that the following IE setting 'Tools->Intranet Options->Security->Custom Level->Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe.'"

I have configured all of the IE security settings (Internet, Intranet, Trusted Sites) to allow ActiveX controls.  In the Advanced Tab under Security, I have checked "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer."

I have tried multiple different Java updates - 32bit & 64bit; ver 6 thru ver 8 - and the error does not go away.

I have upgraded to IE9, and no longer get the error...BUT...it still doesn't work.   With IE9, the application will start, but the buttons on the page do not work (the mouse switches from an arrow to a hand when I move it over one of the buttons, but nothing happens when I click on the button).   One of the buttons is "Cancel" and should close the app...but it doesn't.

I have spent many fruitless hours searching on-line and have not found anything that helps.

Any thoughts, insights, or idea are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Protected Mode Settings

Hello,

We are currently using Click-Once to deploy our software and it seems like Protected Mode is blocking our .application from running.

I was curious what settings "Protected Mode" actually changes for the block to occur?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Opening JSP files

When we were on windows XP, our users were able to run JSP files. Now since we've upgraded to windows 7, JSP files open instead of running, which only displays the code.

On my machine I was able to double click the JSP file, and select internet explorer as the default program, and the file ran just fine.

But when I go to the user's workstation to perform the same configuration change, when I run the file, Internet Explorer just gives an option to open or save the file. When you click Open, it does the same thing again.

Any ideas?

Me and the user are both using Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.17239 on Windows 7 Professional.

open or save

I'm having a problem in Internet Explorer 11. No matter which website I attempt to visit, I get this message: "Do you want to open or save [such-and-such]?" Whether I click "Open," "Save," "Cancel," or the"x" to remove the message, the option goes white and nothing happens. In no case can I get past the message to the program itself.

I've been using IE 11 for a couple of years; why am I only now constantly seeing the message?

Using Chrome, I wasted a few hours looking for a solution. Mostly I was told that the message is integral to Internet Explorer and cannot be bypassed.

I decided to install a fresh copy of IE 11 but got the message (I paraphrase): "IE 11 cannot be installed because your computer already has a newer version of this program."

I uninstalled IE 11; now IE 10 comes up. But the same message constantly appears ("Do you want to open or save [X]? Open Save Cancel"), and clicking any option only makes the option go white, with nothing else happening.

I simply want to stop seeing the message. I need to get MY work done, rather than try to make IE work.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) compatibility view

I am running more than 50 websites on a shared IIS 7.5 server in the live production environment. Recently the client machines received the Windows 8.1 update and it is giving compatibility issues to many website URLs.

It will be not an immediate solution to fix them through code modification as many of them are third party products and will take time.

As an intermediate solution, can I enable the compatibility mode using HTTP Headers in IIS 7.5? If that is the case what IIS config change I have to make it work in IE 11?

Please help...

IE9 won't open a lot of pages.  It just opens a new tab that is a blank screen and a empty tab title.  The extension types all vary.  However, if I cut and paste the link in a new tab it will work.  I already tried to down grade the version to 8, but it says its unsupported by windows 7 64 bit, funny I started with 8...

Wpad proxy problem with ie10 and 11

Hi,

We have been using a wpad.dat file for a number of years now to deploy our proxy settings. We currently have ie9 on all machines and the wpad.dat file works. When we upgrade to ie10 or 11 the wpad settings do not work and we have to manually set the proxy. Does anyone know how to get this working with ie10 and 11?

We have the wpad.dat file on a web server, are using DHCP 252 and have an entry in DNS. The OS on the machines is Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

We want the user to be able to access the internet a work and also access the internet externally without manually changing the proxy settings.

Google Toolbar has disappeared from IE 10

Hello!

I have Windows 7 Professional SP1 and Internet Explorer 10 . Everything works good until yesterday.

Have anybody any ideea why this toolbar (Google) disappearing and than reappearing (sometimes) after an automatic restore of the last browsing windows!???

It usualy look like a blank toolbar (no icons, only [x] for disabling the Google Toolbar).

I uninstalled from "Programs and features" the toolbar, then downloaded and reinstall the last version from the google site >>>>> toolbar is invisible .

I've "Reset" my Internet Explorer's Options to their Default >>>> toolbar is invisible .

Under "Manage Add-Ons" > Toolbars and Extensions > Google Toolbar and Helper > Enebled both of them >>>>>> toolbar is invisible .

Before this, I had some dialog warning windows, about overscribt ...or something, about google erorr, and asked to continue or not, <yes> or <no>, I selected yes .... nothing, no .... nothing, and s.o. .... after window disappeared . It could be the origin of the problem?

Why is this happening? What can I do more? Thanks!!!

Internet explorer interprets path and finds resource.

I would like to write a program for IE, that enables it to find a ressource. Let me explain:

My project name is newfactory. The Sharepoint site for that project has a file which is in the 'newfactory' folder, then the 'quality' folder, and below that, the 'testing' folder, then below that is the file, it is named 'Testplan.doc'.

To make life easier for the project members, I would like them to use the URL 'newfactory/quality/testing/Testplan.doc' when accessing that document. Of course, that takes some translating, but if the program knows the (current) location of the Sharepoint server, and the root folder of all Projects on Sharepoint, then it should be able to translate the simple URL into the real one.

Please give me some direction I can go, to make this happen.

Thanks in advance.

Use Group Policy to Delete Browsing History Subcategories

I want to configure the Internet Explorer clients in my organization so that Delete browsing history on exit is configured.  I also would like to enable thePreserve Favorites website data and Temporary Internet files and website files settings so that the former are preserved and the latter deleted.  Here is an image showing my goal:

I see that I can configure the Delete browsing history on exit setting via a GPO, but I'm not sure how to configure the other two settings.  I've run Process Monitor on my computer in hopes of identifying registry keys that I can modify via a script, but I wasn't able to identify any.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

"Send link by email" in IE9?

$

I have just moved from IE8 to 9, and I want to send a link by email.  I often do this.  I found a way:

Press Alt, to bring up the old menu, click on the File menu, hover over Send, and click "Link by email".

You have got to be joking!  Please tell me I'm wrong, I'm missing something, or just that I'm plain stupid.  Tell me anything, but don't tell methat's the only way to send a link by email in IE9!
