Web developer seeking IE browser add-on for auto-filling forms for .NET applications.

Hi,

I am VB & C# .NET web developer seeking recommendations for a (free) browser add-on to Internet Explorer that will automatically fill in forms as I page through an application. This is not a consumer autocomplete managing user name, password, and secure financials.  Security is not a consideration.  I need something to fill out forms fields of various control types containing a variety of non-standard information to speed debugging multi-page web applications under development.

Thanks,

Jeff

Internet Exporer 11: Disable search from address bar (entirely)

When we try to use internal websites (sites like hostname.some.subdomain.com:NNNN/some/path/ ) internet explorer 11 shows autocomplete entries for previous visits to those websites, but, when selected, it then searches bing for those URLs, and that makes very little sense to do.

it's an address bar. it's where addresses are typed in. I don't want internal website addresses (frankly, any website addresses) to turn into a bing search. I don't search from the address bar. Ever. In previous versions I could disable that, and in this version that option seems to have been replaced with "go directly if a single word is typed in [intranet site like "home" or "intranet" or "sharepoint", etc.] ", but that doesn't disable the search feature enough to avoid still continuing to search when internal websites are entered/selected in the address bar.

Is there some other place to disable the search, so that addresses typed into the address bar work?

IE9 Group Policy Add-on list blocking Javascript

I am trying to configure the two Internet Explorer policy settings 'Add-on List', and 'Deny all add-ons unless specifically allowed in the Add-on List'.  I've been through and specified a whole stack of add-ons and ActiveX controls I want to run, and the list is applying successfully.

The problem now is that any page that relies on JavaScript is not loading.  I did a bit of digging around, and found that I needed to add the CLSID for JavaScript to the list.  I've gone and done this, but even after adding these entries, pages which use JavaScript fail to load properly.

I'm certain there are no other security settings that are causing issues - I can cause the fault to occur immediately by enabling 'Deny all add-ons unless specifically allowed in the Add-on List', and I can fix it by turning that setting off.

ie11 slow after july/august patches despite KB2991509

Does anyone else see very slow response times in internet explorer 11 (win 7 sp1 x64) after KB2976627 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2976627) despite Hotfix KB2991509?

What we see on systems is "not responding" for example when minimizing internet explorer and then after a few seconds maximizing the opened site again via the taskbar or closing/changing tabs

KB2988414 and default search provider via INSTALL.INS

$

I use Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) to preset search providers.

IEAK lets you nominate the default search provider (the one I have preset isn't Bing).

This creates [SearchProviders] in an INSTALL.INS file.  You can transfer this to

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SIGNUP\install.ins

Before installing KB2988414, this process "just works".

After installing KB2988414, when you logon with a new profile, which triggers the Internet Explorer new profile process, Internet Explorer shows

An unknown program would like to change your default search provider to "[provider]"

However, this is a legitimate, Microsoft-provided process, not malicious software.

If I remove the following parameter from the [SearchProviders] block, then I no longer get the message, but the search provider defaults to Bing.

Default1=1

I believe this is a defect.

Kind regards,

Anwar

Internet Explorer 10 - New Tab downloads page

When I try to open a new tab (not via a link, just a blank tab), Internet Explorer constantly tries to download my default tab home page, rather than opening it in a new window. If it helps, I have 2 pages that start up on the first load of Internet Explorer, but the new tab option only load the first option, which is Google.

Is there something I'm missing here, because it is getting incredibly frustrating having to close and reopen Internet Explorer to search the web or navigate to a new page.

Here is the download box I get. As you can see, this is a repeating issue.

Logging in to the Microsoft Community Forums

I have three computers connecting to the Microsoft Community Forums:
Desktop –Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11
Laptop –Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11
Desktop –Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 11

The problems started yesterday morning when the Windows 7 Desktop started failing to automatically log into the Microsoft Community Forums. The message that appears is:
Something went wrong and we can’t sign you in at the moment. Please try again later.

Using the Windows 7 Laptop and Windows 8 Desktop I can log on but I cannot establish why I cannot log on using the Windows 7 Desktop. During the whole time I have been troubleshooting I have always been able to log on to the TechNet Forums, which seems to establish that the Microsoft Live Account has been working the whole time the problem has existed. Before becoming convinced that the Microsoft Live Account was OK I did change the password but doing this changed nothing.

I had problems with a long running script. The script when it occurred was not immediately apparent. The screen seems to freeze, Eventually a message appeared referring to the script which allowed you to stop it or allow it to continue.

I have not seen the message since the last time I stopped it. Having said that the window displayingSomething went wrong and we can’t sign you in at the moment. Please try again later occurs now after a series of addresses flashes in the address bar referring toContinue before the window with the longer message appears. If you then look at the History there are a number of references toContinue under login.live (login.live.com)which conclude with Sign in to your Microsoft account.

I believe that the computer is free of malware. I have completed scans using Malwarebytes and ADW Cleaner. Nothing found. I have used cCleaner to remove temporary files, cookies etc. I have cleared DNS Cache, run System File Checker and used a  system restore point.

The problem seems to only relate to login.live (login.live.com).

What more can I do to resolve this problem

TIA, Gerry

Wpad proxy problem with ie10 and 11

Hi,

We have been using a wpad.dat file for a number of years now to deploy our proxy settings. We currently have ie9 on all machines and the wpad.dat file works. When we upgrade to ie10 or 11 the wpad settings do not work and we have to manually set the proxy. Does anyone know how to get this working with ie10 and 11?

We have the wpad.dat file on a web server, are using DHCP 252 and have an entry in DNS. The OS on the machines is Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

We want the user to be able to access the internet a work and also access the internet externally without manually changing the proxy settings.

IE10 upgrade, forefront page not displayed

Hi,

We are currently trying to update our Windows 7 machines from IE8 to IE10.

Most applications work fine. However, we use a corporate intranet. To login to this intranet we need to enter credentials in a Forefront website.  Under IE8 there was no problem. But under IE10 I get a Windows login screen wich asks me for a domain\username credentials. Under IE8 we could use username password. See attached pictures. Other browsers display the forefront page just fine.

The website is in the trusted zone.

Automatic proxy setting change (not WPAD)

Is there a way to achieve the following in a Windows 2008 R2 domain:

- Switch proxy settings without user interaction but rather based on network location

- Preferable not use WPAD because of a potential malicious redirect

I found some third party tools but they cannot be easily centrally deployed or/and configured.

IE 11 uses HTTP 1.0 for CONNECT requests instead of HTTP 1.1

$

I'm running into a performance problem with Internet Explorer 11 and HTTP CONNECT requests going through a proxy server.  The problem is that IE uses HTTP 1.0 when initiating the CONNECT request.  Because it is using HTTP 1.0, there is a lot more connection traffic, which causes slow performance between the host and the proxy.  As a note, the proxy is remote to the user.

Here is my environment:

* Windows 7 SP1, plus all patches via Windows Update as of August 28, 2014
* Latest version of IE 11, specifically version 11.0.9600.17207
* IE HTTP settings are as follows:
     Use HTTP 1.1 (checked)
Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections (checked)
* Proxy:  Blue Coat ProxySG 300 running SGOS version 6.5.4.5; No authentication and no SSL intercept

Other browsers, such as Firefox v31 or Google Chrome 36.0.1985.143m or 37.0.2062.102m use HTTP 1.1 with the CONNECT requests.  Because they use HTTP 1.1 requests, the amount of traffic pulled across the wire is significantly less (about 1/6th the amount of traffic).  This results in significantly better performance by the non-IE browsers.

I found a similar post at this location (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie8-windows_other/how-to-force-ie-to-use-http11-over-ssl-through/360eca2d-e290-4078-ad37-7665bec706c4 ), but the post is five years old and not relevant because I'm not doing any authentication with the Blue Coat proxy.  The same proxy config with non-IE browsers going to the same websites yields CONNECT requests being made with HTTP 1.1 instead of HTTP 1.0 requests.  This appears to be an undocumented IE feature that when IE uses a proxy server and goes to an HTTPS site, it will only use HTTP 1.0 for CONNECT requests instead of HTTP 1.1.

Is this a known IE issue?  If so, is there a registry setting that can be implemented to override this default behavior?  If not, is there a patch/hotfix that can be downloaded and applied to address the problem?

If there isn't a patch, are there any plans to enhance IE so it will use HTTP 1.1 instead of 1.0 for CONNECT requests?  If there are no plans, can plans be made to address this performance issue with IE?

Thank you for your time and assistance.  It is appreciated.

Internet Explorer 11 - Print Preview or Print of long pages causes many blank pages

As a volunteer, I am creating a web site for a small church using Wix.com. On three of my web site's pages with lots of text, when using Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.17239 Print Preview or Print, the page header prints, the remainder of the page is blank. There may be one or more blank pages and then the footer prints followed by some more blank pages and then, finally, the body text prints.

All other web site pages Print Preview and Print as they should. This problem only affects the three pages with a lot of body text.

I do not have this problem if I use Google Chrome.

When I copied one of the pages and shortened the body text, the shortened page works fine in Print Preview or Print.

I went through the steps in KB973479 and that did not resolve this problem.

I have Print Background Colors and Images checked.
I have Enable Shrink-to-Fit checked.
Un-checking them does not fix the problem.
Portrait or Landscape mode makes no difference.

Outlook Web App 2010 and Internet Explorer 8 and 9 Crashing

$

Our Hosted Exchange provider switched us to Outlook Web App 2010 over the weekend and it causing us a lot of problems.

On our Windows 2008 x64 Server Standard SP2, OWA causes Internet Explorer to crash anytime a user tries to change to a different folder.

The only error message we get is:
Internet Explorer has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Steps taken:

Disabled all add-ins.

Reverted from IE 9 to IE 8 as that works on our Windows 2003 servers.

Reset Internet Explorer.

Added the site to the Trusted Sites list.

Tried it in Compatibility Mode.

Uninstalled Silverlight (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/c9d87352-e6a9-4123-b82e-c65e71e94fe0/owa-2010-crashes-ie9)

Performed all steps listed at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813444/en-us

After going through all of that, I disabled add-ins one by one. When I disabled the Windows Media Player add-in, OWA worked properly. Although there is a constant error message in IE8 that a necessary add-in is disabled. Since WMP is the only add-in disabled, I presume that is the one.

Here is the info about the add-in:

Name:                Windows Media Player
Publisher:              Microsoft Corporation
Type:                   ActiveX Control
Version:                11.0.6002.18311
File date:
Date last accessed:     September 02, 2014, 3:33 PM
Class ID:               {6BF52A52-394A-11D3-B153-00C04F79FAA6}
Use count:              3
Block count:            10
File:                   wmp.dll
Folder:                 C:\Windows\System32

So how do I make OWA work with IE8 and IE9 and WMP which is supposedly necessary?

OWA does work in Chrome though. Isn't that ironic?

Outdated ActiveX control Blocking

Hello all... I am working on blocking the new Outdated Active X Control feature that has come down in the Augst update but will not be in effect until the September updates. I know that I can use group policy or a registry edit to disable that feature, at least for the time being so we can do more testing on our enviornment. However, I do not see any feature in Internet Options that allows you to turn this on or off. Am I missing that setting? We are still on IE 9 in our enviornment. Thanks in advance!
