IE11 cookie reading problem - screen sections missing

$

Hi All

We recently upgraded our RDS platform to IE11 on Windows 2008 R2.  We are seeing an odd issue with some users which goes something like this.

User logs in for first time
Goes to www.bbc.co.uk
Accepts Cookie notification
Goes to www.gmail.com
Logs in
Opens new tabs for unrelated websites, closes gmail.com and bbc.co.uk
sometime later on, opens new tab and visits gmail or bbc.co.uk
is greeted with logon prompt and Cookie notification, suggesting the browser cannot read cookie files or webcache.

Curiously if the user closes down IE completely and waits for iexplore.exe to end (which can take a good 45 seconds) and then reopens IE, the user doesn't get prompted atwww.bbc.co.uk for cookies and doesn't have to login at gmail.com, suggesting that the browser is again able to read cookie files and webcache.

We have also seen some websites which do not show all of the web content properly e.g. MapMyRun doesn't show the map and SharePoint doesn't show the documents pane.  Closing IE in the same method above and reopening temporarily fixes the problem.

I used process explorer and the only thing which was reading the webcache01v.dat  file is taskhost.exe

It is a really strange problem, but is affecting more users.  Does anyone have any ideas on things to check/troubleshoot?

Sam

Web developer seeking IE browser add-on for auto-filling forms for .NET applications.

Hi,

I am VB & C# .NET web developer seeking recommendations for a (free) browser add-on to Internet Explorer that will automatically fill in forms as I page through an application. This is not a consumer autocomplete managing user name, password, and secure financials.  Security is not a consideration.  I need something to fill out forms fields of various control types containing a variety of non-standard information to speed debugging multi-page web applications under development.

Thanks,

Jeff

How do I get catalog.update.microsft.com to play nice with ie11 64-bit ?

I was getting nowhere on catalog.update.micrsoft.com with ie11 on windows 8.1 64-bit.

Looks like it was missing an active-x control (and doesn't prompt for it).

I used ie10 on another 64-bit machine (that I've previously used on the website) and grabbed MicrosoftUpdateCatalogWebControl.dll from %windir%sysWOW64 and copied it to the same location on my 8.1 box.  Then ran regsvr32 MicrosoftUpdateCatalogWebControl.dll as an administrator in that directory and everything was peachy.  Thought I'd share in case anyone else ran into this problem.

HTA file will not run correctly

I am having a problem with launching a 3rd party application that uses .HTA files.

My computer is a 64-bit, Win 7 Professional w/SP1, IE8.  The application requires Java 6.14 minimum.  It is a clean install - OS with required device drivers, Java, and the 3rd party application.   (I have an older 32bit Win7 computer that I have been able to test with, and the application works perfectly on it).

After installing the application, I get the following error message when I launch it: "Make sure that the following IE setting 'Tools->Intranet Options->Security->Custom Level->Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe.'"

I have configured all of the IE security settings (Internet, Intranet, Trusted Sites) to allow ActiveX controls.  In the Advanced Tab under Security, I have checked "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer."

I have tried multiple different Java updates - 32bit & 64bit; ver 6 thru ver 8 - and the error does not go away.

I have upgraded to IE9, and no longer get the error...BUT...it still doesn't work.   With IE9, the application will start, but the buttons on the page do not work (the mouse switches from an arrow to a hand when I move it over one of the buttons, but nothing happens when I click on the button).   One of the buttons is "Cancel" and should close the app...but it doesn't.

I have spent many fruitless hours searching on-line and have not found anything that helps.

Any thoughts, insights, or idea are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't have any problem using Internet Explorer Options to delete historical password records but IE still remembers the usernames. How do I delete all usernames previously stored by IE?

IE11 Enterprise Mode site list not working

$

I've configured the Enterprise Mode site list as directed in the following article

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn640696.aspx

and set up the gpo to point to my site.  I've confirmed in my site's logs that the xml file is accessible.

However, it isn't working; none of the sites are launching in enterprise mode.  I notice that the CurrentVersion key in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode has remained at 1 and is not updating.  I'm assuming that is the problem, but I can't figure out why it won't update.

Any advice?

Deploy IE 11 to specific computers in an OU

I have a need to push silent IE 11 upgrade to specific computers in an OU. Say Sales OU which has PC01-10, but I only need to push installation via either GPO or WSUS to PC01, 02, and 04. How do I do this? I google it but could not locate any solution and I got confusing with WMI via GPO.

I am using GPO to deploy software and WSUS for Windows Updates. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

AngularJS Performance in IE 11

We have a monolithic application using the AngularJS front end framework.  In IE 10, our application was snappy and wonderful to use.  As our users have begun upgrading their browsers to IE11, we started to get complaints of performance issues. Finally I set up two bare machines with nothing but the OS, Drivers and the browser.  And side by side, our application was slower in IE 11, often considerably so.  This situation is really mission critical, and I'm just wondering if any of the users here have seen similar javascript issues.

accelerators not appearing on right click

Hi

I have IE11 and windows 8.1.

After the last round of updates I no longer have any options

for using the accelerators when highlighting text and right clicking.

All I get is the copy/paste menu. I have unistalled IE 11 and reinstalled it to no avail.

All the accelerators are in the manage Add on window. I don't know what

has happened. The accelerators  are the only feature in IE that make it worth having.

Any help would be appreciated

thanks

Enterprise Mode - Not Updating From XML File

$

I've used GPMC to deploy the settings for Enterprise Mode within IE 11, and initially the XML file was pulled in my IE jus fine.  However, to simulate a real world test, I added a few sites and removed a site or two and now it seems to be holding onto the initial list and not pulling the updated list.

I've tried doing a gpupdate, but that hasn't helped.  Any ideas?  Am I missing something?

Internet Explorer refuses to navigate

Since the mid-august Windows update, I have a really strange problem with IE: most of time, it refuses to navigate from a site to another, and on some sites (eg. bing.com) it refuses to navigate inside the site itself.

Funny fact: if I opened an add-on panel which I wrote and does not interfare with navigation, then IE accepts to navigate, as long as the target is in the same page.

If I try to open a page in another tab or another window, it never works.

In all cases, it marks the hyperlink as navigated.

Finally, if I copy the shortcut and enter it in the address bar, it works perfectly.

I have already tried to uninstall/reinstall IE, use another account on the same machine, it does not change anything.

Configuration=Windows 8.1, 100% up to date

Thanks !

internet explorer 10 "acts" like it's an old version

Most website I navigate to with IE 10 cause a prompt that says, "you appear to be using an OLD version of IE, upgrade.." or similar verbiage. Usually the prompt has links to FF, Opera, Chrome and .... you guessed it! IE 10!! When I click on IE 10, it says I already have the latest greatest...yet I am blocked from using SOOOOO MANY websites with IE, that I just might enable FF as my "default" .... I did change the setting for "compatibility" so that a piece of quickbooks (loan manager) would run properly, but otherwise it's a myster. I am using Windows 7 Home by the way.....so far I haven't heard of another single human being on earth having this issue ...googling has revealed nothing so far. Not a big deal but for such an huge and strange issue I'm surprised it's not cropping up all over the net. thanks for any leads.

Can't Roll back Internet Explorer on Windows 8.1?

We have had a few users download and install the Window 8.1 OS. Apparently this version forces Internet Explorer 11. Unfortunately IE 11 is having some compatibility issues that aren't resolved when using compatibility mode.  Is there really not a way to use a different version of IE on Windows 8.1?

KB2988414 and default search provider via INSTALL.INS

$

I use Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) to preset search providers.

IEAK lets you nominate the default search provider (the one I have preset isn't Bing).

This creates [SearchProviders] in an INSTALL.INS file.  You can transfer this to

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SIGNUP\install.ins

Before installing KB2988414, this process "just works".

After installing KB2988414, when you logon with a new profile, which triggers the Internet Explorer new profile process, Internet Explorer shows

An unknown program would like to change your default search provider to "[provider]"

However, this is a legitimate, Microsoft-provided process, not malicious software.

If I remove the following parameter from the [SearchProviders] block, then I no longer get the message, but the search provider defaults to Bing.

Default1=1

I believe this is a defect.

Kind regards,

Anwar

Internet Explorer 10 - New Tab downloads page

$

When I try to open a new tab (not via a link, just a blank tab), Internet Explorer constantly tries to download my default tab home page, rather than opening it in a new window. If it helps, I have 2 pages that start up on the first load of Internet Explorer, but the new tab option only load the first option, which is Google.

Is there something I'm missing here, because it is getting incredibly frustrating having to close and reopen Internet Explorer to search the web or navigate to a new page.

Here is the download box I get. As you can see, this is a repeating issue.

Logging in to the Microsoft Community Forums

I have three computers connecting to the Microsoft Community Forums:
Desktop –Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11
Laptop –Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11
Desktop –Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 11

The problems started yesterday morning when the Windows 7 Desktop started failing to automatically log into the Microsoft Community Forums. The message that appears is:
Something went wrong and we can’t sign you in at the moment. Please try again later.

Using the Windows 7 Laptop and Windows 8 Desktop I can log on but I cannot establish why I cannot log on using the Windows 7 Desktop. During the whole time I have been troubleshooting I have always been able to log on to the TechNet Forums, which seems to establish that the Microsoft Live Account has been working the whole time the problem has existed. Before becoming convinced that the Microsoft Live Account was OK I did change the password but doing this changed nothing.

I had problems with a long running script. The script when it occurred was not immediately apparent. The screen seems to freeze, Eventually a message appeared referring to the script which allowed you to stop it or allow it to continue.

I have not seen the message since the last time I stopped it. Having said that the window displayingSomething went wrong and we can’t sign you in at the moment. Please try again later occurs now after a series of addresses flashes in the address bar referring toContinue before the window with the longer message appears. If you then look at the History there are a number of references toContinue under login.live (login.live.com)which conclude with Sign in to your Microsoft account.

I believe that the computer is free of malware. I have completed scans using Malwarebytes and ADW Cleaner. Nothing found. I have used cCleaner to remove temporary files, cookies etc. I have cleared DNS Cache, run System File Checker and used a  system restore point.

The problem seems to only relate to login.live (login.live.com).

What more can I do to resolve this problem

TIA, Gerry

IE 11 - Open in new Tab Not Working

When I click on a link that should open in a new tab (or right-click and select Open in new Tab), IE11 Opens a new tab but the screen is blank, the URL is about:blank and the tab title is 'Blank Page'.

Windows 8.1 x64
Internet Explorer 11 (Desktop)

The 'Metro' version of IE 11 still works fine, it's just the Desktop version which is broken.

I've tried all the fixes listed in the similar thread, but none have helped.
