IE 11 View\Zoom\Custom Not Available

Surface Pro 2
Windows 8.1 Pro with Update

Windows Update upgraded my browser from IE 10 to IE 11.  Now View\Zoom\Custom doesn't bring up the window for entering the zoom level.

When I click on Custom the only thing that happens is the menu closes.

I need to be able to set it to 90% for an application I use.  How do I fix this?

Can't get any version of IE to print

I have a user and a little while ago he was suddenly no longer able to print web pages from internet explorer. I tried rolling back IE to earlier versions, I've tried these methods listed on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973479 and I'm really just at a loss. Right now he's using Firefox to print and doesn't much care for it. He can print from all other applications with no issue. Anybody have any suggestions or ideas?

Extra Tabs opening in Internet Explorer

I use the following Powershell code to configure the IE Home Pages:

## Set Internet Explorer Home Pages in registry
Write-Verbose "Setting Internet Explorer Home Pages"
$HPKey = "HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\main"
$URL1 = "http://www.williamblair.com"
$URL2 = "http://www.wbremote.com"

Start-Process iexplore.exe
Stop-Process -ProcessName iexplore

Set-ItemProperty -Path $HPKey -Name "Start Page" -Value $URL1
Set-ItemProperty -Path $HPKey -Name "Secondary Start Pages" -Value $URL2

Everything gets set correctly, but when i first start IE, I get extra tabs that open up with strange Chinese characters in them in addition to the home pages I select.

Anyone have any ideas why this happens?

IE issues after patch - kb2962872

$

Hi,

Our users have suddenly encountered an issue where Internet Explorer (10 and 11 so far) crashes completely when they try and use our web application. This is related to the cumulative security patch as detailed in kb2962872.

Unfortunately, because IE crashes, we are finding it difficult to identify what the exact problem is with only the windows event log to go on.

Can anyone suggest how I can track down what the exact problem is ? I suspect the issue is related to javascript and Iframes.

Any help gratefully received ...

Thanks

Locking down IE11

$

Hi All,

Thank you in advance for reading my post. I am having trouble locking down IE11 on Win7 Pro. Let me start off with my goal. I am trying to stop the users on stand alone machines (No AD) from typing URL’s into both the IE’s “Address bar” and the Start Menu’s “Search/Run” box and going to their websites of choice while still giving them the functionality of Tabbed Browsing. I have created Links to allow them to go where they need to go.

I also have a Web Proxy server in play, but due to the nature and the way some websites are built, I can’t be too restrictive with it, otherwise some of the websites I do need to go to won’t load or function correctly as they themselves call upon other websites to work.

Of all the research and online searching I’ve done, I found the following registry entries to help me in my quest:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Infodelivery\Restrictions]

"NoSearchBox"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions]

"NoFileOpen"=dword:00000001

"NoFileNew"=dword:00000001

"NoBrowserOptions"=dword:00000001

"NoSelectDownDir"=dword:00000000

"NoTheaterMode"=dword:00000001

"NoBrowserContextMenu"=dword:00000001

"NoFindFiles"=dword:00000001

"NoOpeninNewWnd"=dword:00000001

"NoHelpItemTipOfTheDay"=dword:00000001

"NoHelpItemNetscapeHelp"=dword:00000001

"NoHelpItemTutorial"=dword:00000001

"NoHelpItemSendFeedback"=dword:00000001

"NoViewSource"=dword:00000001

"NoHelpMenu"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions]

"NoToolbarOptions"=dword:00000001

"NoAddressBar"=dword:00000001

"NoNavBar"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TabbedBrowsing]

"Enabled"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]

"NoSearchCommInStartMenu"=dword:00000001

"NoSearchInternetInStartMenu"=dword:00000001

All the above registry entries worked with Win XP Pro. However, now that I moved to Win7 Pro and IE11 and added some additional keys for Win7, the only way I can hide the “Address Bar” is to disable the Navigation Bar completely, NoNavBar=1 which also by default disables the Tabbed Browsing even if I move the Tab bar down to its own location separate from the address bar. The functionality is still there, you can use Alt + Tab to toggle through the tabs, but you just can’t see the tabs anymore even if I specifically have it turned on with a registry key entry, and my users just can’t get the hang of using the keyboard shortcuts to navagate the tabs, and in this scenario, it is less productive to use keyboard shortcuts anyway. Also even though I think I have Internet searches turned off for the “Search/Run” box of the Start Menu with a registry entry, I can still type a URL and IE will launch to that page. I have also tried configuring the HOSTS file to restrict traffic, but not only did that not work, I don't think that would be a good solution considering the fact of load balancers and fail-overs used to manage the major websites. I have also looked into Group Policies, and what I could find there that sounded like it would do what I needed, didn't work either.

At this point, I don’t know if this is a bug, I’m doing something wrong or I’m leaving some registry key out.

If anyone can offer any suggestions or point me in a direction where I can find the answers to my problems, I would greatly appreciate it. I also want to say thanks to all the websites that I found the above registry entries at.

Thanks,

Andy

IE 11 won't install or uninstall

I have one Windows 7 64 bit machine that keeps getting offered IE 11. IE 11 is already installed on the computer. I went Installed Updates and tried to remove IE 11 and got an error message "An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled" I then downloaded Internet Explorer 11 hoping that I could install and do a repair on it. I got the message "Setup can't continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer is installed on the computer".

Internet Explorer does work on the machine.

I went through every forum I could find and did not find a solution. Has anyone got an idea how to fix this.

Internet Explorer Security Settings

Hello,

We are using IE security related Group policies in our environment. We have a site where users are unable to download html pages from all of the websites. We have already tried adding these websites to the Trusted zones. However, the issue still persists. Users get an error bar on the top of IE page. The error states "An add-on for this website failed to run. Check the security settings in Internet Options for potential conflicts". We have a different OU where this GPO is not applied and we do not face this issue there.

Can anyone suggest what specific setting do i need to look for in gpresult from working and non-working computer. Please find the error screenshot attached.

Farid Ansari

Serious problem with IE11 javascript (true !== true).

$

we are facing a pretty strange problem in our web aplication on IE11 (other IE versions work fine).
The application is based on SmartGWT ( http://www.smartclient.com/product/smartgwt.jsp ) - GWT wrapper on SmaretClient javascript framework.

IE11 goes into never ending cycles.
It happens very randomly and we have no steps to reproduce it. The complexity of our application makes it impossible to post a sample of the code.
Most often it happens when users work with the application, then they minimize the browser window and after some time they restore it and try to continue working.

The never ending cycles are caused by strange comparison results, when expression 'true === true' results in false.

The comparison code is:

$wnd.isc.isA.Canvas(obj) === true

The code is executed in scope of iframe containing javascript compiled by GWT.

$wnd is the main(top) window of the web application where the SmartClient javascripts are loaded.

The isc.isACanvas(..) is a method returning true or false, depending on whether the object passed as parameter is of Canvas type - Canvas is a special class from SmartClient framework not the HTML Canvas element.

isc.isA.Canvas = function (object) {
  return (object != null && object._isA_Canvas);
}

_isA_Canvas is set on object to true (boolean true not 'true' as a string) when the object is being created.

I have added some testing code to the part wher the problematic comparison is used - here's a simplified version:

var trueCheckCount = 0;
function isCreated(id){
  var obj = $wnd.window[id]; // objects are stored in window by id

  var comparisonResult = $wnd.isc.isA.Canvas(obj) === true;

  if (!comparisonResult ) {
    if ($wnd.isc.isA.Canvas(obj) == true) {
      alert("TRUE != TRUE  (was OK: " + trueCheckCount + "x before)");
    } else {
      trueCheckCount++;
    }
  }
  return comparisonResult;
}

In different test runs, the alert was shown after different number of passes. E.g. on the first run it passed 358 698 times, on the second run it passed 330 125 times …

Does anybody have any idea what could be the problem?
How can 'true !== true' ever happen?

Best way to deploy IE11 in latest Version 11.0.7

$

Hello there,

I´m looking for the best way to deploy IE11 in the latest Version 11.0.7, because that one includes the Enterprise mode.

When I just push IE11 out through WSUS, the RTM Version without Updates gets installed. So the scenario would be:

  • Install IE11
  • Reboot
  • Install Updates
  • Reboot
  • Enterprise Mode ready

That is of course not a good way, because after the first reboot the Enterprise Mode is not available yet and the RTM Version does not include the latest security updates.

So I downloaded the IE11 installer and the latest IE11 Update (KB2929437) and tried the following things:

  • Extract IE11-Windows6.1-KB2929437-x86.msu to get the IE11-Windows6.1-KB2929437-x86.cab
  • IE11-Windows6.1-x86-en-us.exe /passive /norestart
  • C:\Windows\System32\dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:"C:\Temp\IE11-Windows6.1-KB2929437-x86.cab" /quiet /norestart
  • Reboot

After just one reboot I had the latest Version of IE 11 (11.0.7) installed.

I´m wondering now if this is a valid way to push it out or if there are a better ways of doing it.

Thanks for your help!

Privacy Statement or Browser Has Been Upgraded page loads after June KB2957689 Cumulative Patch

$

Hi all,

I am often placed in charge of WSUS for our desktop estate which is primarily Windows 7 SP1 x86 with IE9 as the default browser. During testing today, I found after applying KB2957689 "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9" when a user loads IE, an extra tab loads automatically which goes to the "MS IE9 Privacy Statement" page located at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/products/ie-9/windows-internet-explorer-9-privacy-statement. This only happens once per user after the patch is installed, so I'd imagine the patch adds, or enables a registry key for the first launch.

I can find no mention of this behaviour on the KB article, and no searches in the usual places has lead to any other reports of this happening. Ideally we want to avoid any unnecessary demand to the helpdesk by the displaying of the page.

Can anyone else confirm any similar mentions of this happening, or will I need to log a ticket with Microsoft for this?

Kind Regards, Steve Sands.

IE 10 and 11 freeze after KB2962872 - Web Application with File Upload/Download

$

IE 10 and 11 freeze after KB2962872 update with the following scenario:

Upload a file to a server, the server responses with a file download (like a simple conversion service).

Result: When the server is sending the file, IE freezes and process iexplore.exe is running with high CPU load.

IE 8 and 9 are not affected. And IE 10 and 11 without the KB2962872 update also work fine.

If IE 11 with KB2962872 is running in InPrivate mode, then it also works. In contrast to that, IE 10 with KB2962872 in InPrivate mode does not work.

Demo:

http://sharedspace.lima-city.de/upload.php

Just select any file. After clicking on "Upload", an empty text file "test.txt" should be returned. Instead nothing happens and the browser crashes/freezes.

Sourcecode:

upload.php

<form enctype="multipart/form-data" action="./service.php" method="POST"><input name="file" type="file" /><br><input type="submit" value="Upload" name="upload"/></form>

service.php

<?php header('Content-Type: application/x-download'); header('Content-DisPosition: attachment; filename="test.txt"'); ?>

Any solution so solve this problem?

PDF's not updating when opened in IE 9.0

Hello everyone,

We have a website running in IIS7 that our agency uses as it's document repository for informational documents, mostly PDF's and Word Documents.  When a PDF is updated and posted on the site, the users do not get the newer version of the PDF when they click the link.  Instead they get the older version in their Cache.

We can not change the file name or the URL to the file as that would require our administrative staff to make drastic changes each time they update a document.  The webpage has permanent links to the files located on a share.  The share is where the staff place the update documents in. This way we don't have to redo the HTML links each time.

Does anyone have an answer?  And PLEASE DO NOT mark a reply as the answer unless I or someone else post that the issue was resolved by the post.

Thank you,

Printing blank lines in IE 8, 9, 10 and 11 differs

$

0

We have Credit Reports that are put in Iframe (and hidden fields) and when the users checks which ones they want to print, we take the hidden fields an populate one Iframe to print them all from.

Problem is, IE 8 prints fine, IE 9 removes many of the blank lines that used to be there and IE 10 pretty much removes all blank lines.  IE 11 seems to work ok though.

While IE 8 is being deprecated, IE 9 & 10 are still our majority users and am I trying to find a solution for them.

Is there something other than an iframe I should be using?

Here is the code:

for(count=0; count <= intCounter; count++)

    {

vartabChecked = $get(printTab[count]);

if(tabChecked.checked ==true)

    {

varhdnPrintFieldName ="hdnPrintFieldName"+ count;

vardoc = document.getElementById(hdnPrintFieldName);

    appendReports = appendReports + doc.value;

    }

    }

varprintDoc = appendReports;

    parent.iframeprint.document.open();

    parent.iframeprint.document.write(printDoc);

    parent.iframeprint.document.close();

    parent.iframeprint.focus();

    parent.iframeprint.print();

The report even looks different in the presented iframe (tabbed) in the various IE versions, though sometimes not exactly the same as the printed version in the same IE.
