Tabbed browsing not working properly in IE10

On a Windows 7 x64 PC, when choosing to "Open in a New Tab" the browser doesn't use the same window. I have selected the "Always open pop-ups in a new tab" option. Enable Protected Mode is checked. I have opened a link from a different program and the new tab is created within the current IE window. The only time I have been getting this problem is when I right-click and select to open a new tab. Please let me know if there are other possible solutions out there - registry settings, advanced option settings, etc. Thanks!

IE10 wont allow me to open FTP files in Explorer View

I have an FTP internally that is used to host PDF & HTML files. Previously all users could log onto this FTP site and double click on any file content to have it open within the default browser. We use FTP in explorer view so each user can set their terminals to save their passwords, hence they log straight into their root folder on the FTP - if we use the FTP list view in the browser this doesnt happen, meaning user 9999 has a long way to scroll to find their documents!
This has always worked absolutely fine until IE10 has been installed, now any user with IE10 cant open files straight from the FTP via the Explorer view. The file doesnt download, the destination file ends up at 0KB so just doesnt open in the browser. Roll back to IE9 fixes the problem. Using Chrome as the default browser fixes the problem. Using the FTP list view also works fine (however we cant use this since it wont default to users root folder that they have access to)
Ive attempted everything i can think of without luck, its looking like we're going to have to block IE10 or switch to Chrome. Basically opening files from any FTP site (have tested others) in explorer view with IE10 installed just isnt working. You can however copy the document to the local machine then open ok..
Any ideas, what am i missing here!?
Cheers!!!

Installation requirements for the web browser control

I want to use the Microsoft Web Browser control in my application, which is a 32-bit Visual C++ MFC app (not .Net), built using Visual C++ 2010. I can get the Web Browser control working fine.  That's the easy part. The hard part is working out what I need to do to my application's installation routine, to ensure that everything will run OK when installed. My program must run on Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.  If possible (not essential), I'd also like to support XP (SP3).

I have tried reading all the documentation but am going round in circles with it. Part of the problem is that much of the documentation I've found seems very dated and I can't work out which bits are still up-to-date and correct, and which aren't. So here are some questions:

(1) Do I need to use an IEAK to create a special build, given that all I want to do is to use the Web Browser Control. I've heard that I don't (and my tests suggest I don't).  But can someone please confirm whether or not that is true?  The only relevant documentation I can find on this, talks about IE4, and is presumably over a decade old.

(2) If I don't need to use the IEAK, is there anything else I need to do as regards distribution and licencing? Do I need a licence from Microsoft?  If so, how do I get one?

(3) If I do need to use the IEAK, presumably I need to use IEAK 8, if I support XP, or IEAK9 if I don't. Can anyone give me some tips on how I'm supposed to use the kit. None of the installer options seem relevant to what I'm trying to do. Plus it requires to be run once for all my 'target' environments. But there is no support for Windows 8.  What am I supposed to do about that?

All help much appreciated.

IE 11 content advisor configuration via GPO

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to enable and configure the content advisor for IE 11 through GPO. The setting in Group Policy preferences is greyed out and there is no way to configure from a regular policy. The only setting relates to showing the content advisor option (it's disabled by default).

I don't wish to use IEAK.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Trying to download an application for work,  Tried on the IE 8, 10 & 11 with no add ons and in the compatibility mode and it will not work.  I continue to get the error message:  You must have IE 5.5 or higher to use the Contact Center Manager Admin.  I do have the credentials and the admin over me to try and neither one of us can do this.  I have a windows 7 computer and I didn't have this problem with my other one, but since Feb or March we have had major issues with IE.

We need help as others are having this same issue.

Thanks

Internet Explorer 10 cookies and roaming profiles (WebCache directory)

Hi,

I'm having a cookie problem on 2 out of 2 tested environments using Windows Server 2008 R2 (with roaming profiles) and Internet Explorer 10 (IEAK'ed) :S

For instance when I login to www.google.com with my username and password, as long as I'm using my Windows session I'm logged in towww.google.com every time I open the browser (with all iexplore.exe processes closed before). When I logoff my Windows session my (roaming) profile is beeing saved on the fileserver and the locally cached Windows profile is beeing deleted.

When I logon to Windows again (on the same computer) the roaming profile is beeing copied from the fileserver to my client (including the .txt cookies), butwww.google.com isn't logging me in automatically. The same thing happens with other cookies related stuff on websites :S

Also tried WITH and WITHOUT folder redirection for AppData/Cookies/etc, even a newly installed environment with Microsoft defaults is giving me problems.

Anybody out there having the same problem ?

IE 11 blocks access to "Microsoft Update" service

Using Windows Update on Windows 7 SP1, there is an option to enable "Microsoft Update" at the bottom to also update Office and other Microsoft applications:

Get updates for other Microsoft products. Find out more.

,

This opens a webpage, which in IE 10 and earlier, allows me to enable Microsoft Update.

However, IE 11 does not show the page to enable Microsoft Update but shows a useless and unrelated help message:

Use your Start menu to check for updates

How am I supposed to enable the optional Microsoft Update service now?

Interent Explorer 11 Will Not Save MSN Page a Default Home Page

I am currently running Windows 8.1 with Internet Explorer 11. I set My MSN page in the internet options section. It will be my home page as long as I do not close Internet Explorer. When I reopen Internet Explorer, I have to click the tab on the upper right hand side to sign in? I do not have to sign in, it just brings me to My Msn page. Why must I have to click the "Sign in" button each time. Prior to using Windows 8.1 and or Internet Explorer I never had to sign in again once I set My MSN page as the default home page. Has anyone experienced this issue and or have a fix for myself.

Thank you for your time in this matter.

Best way to deploy IE11 in latest Version 11.0.7

$

Hello there,

I´m looking for the best way to deploy IE11 in the latest Version 11.0.7, because that one includes the Enterprise mode.

When I just push IE11 out through WSUS, the RTM Version without Updates gets installed. So the scenario would be:

  • Install IE11
  • Reboot
  • Install Updates
  • Reboot
  • Enterprise Mode ready

That is of course not a good way, because after the first reboot the Enterprise Mode is not available yet and the RTM Version does not include the latest security updates.

So I downloaded the IE11 installer and the latest IE11 Update (KB2929437) and tried the following things:

  • Extract IE11-Windows6.1-KB2929437-x86.msu to get the IE11-Windows6.1-KB2929437-x86.cab
  • IE11-Windows6.1-x86-en-us.exe /passive /norestart
  • C:\Windows\System32\dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:"C:\Temp\IE11-Windows6.1-KB2929437-x86.cab" /quiet /norestart
  • Reboot

After just one reboot I had the latest Version of IE 11 (11.0.7) installed.

I´m wondering now if this is a valid way to push it out or if there are a better ways of doing it.

Thanks for your help!

Can not organise favourites like I used to?

Hi

So, I'm bust finally making the switch to Win 8.1 from XP Home across my household, all fine apart from the fact that I don't seem to be able to organise non html based favourites on IE's favourites bar.

Example:

I always have my Hotmail email address passcard from RoboForm as my first icon on my favourites bar but since moving to IE11 its been placed right at the end of all my favourites, after all the HTML favourites.  I move it but it goes back to the end following a restart of IE.

I never had this problem before, Ive used RoboForm with IE6, 7 and 8 with no problems.

Please help :-)

My Single Page Application is built using HTML + Javascript only.

Issue is in switching Tabs, in Metro Mode on IE 11. There is quite a lag.

In Standard browser mode, the tab switch works quite fast.

Privacy Statement or Browser Has Been Upgraded page loads after June KB2957689 Cumulative Patch

$

Hi all,

I am often placed in charge of WSUS for our desktop estate which is primarily Windows 7 SP1 x86 with IE9 as the default browser. During testing today, I found after applying KB2957689 "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9" when a user loads IE, an extra tab loads automatically which goes to the "MS IE9 Privacy Statement" page located at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/products/ie-9/windows-internet-explorer-9-privacy-statement. This only happens once per user after the patch is installed, so I'd imagine the patch adds, or enables a registry key for the first launch.

I can find no mention of this behaviour on the KB article, and no searches in the usual places has lead to any other reports of this happening. Ideally we want to avoid any unnecessary demand to the helpdesk by the displaying of the page.

Can anyone else confirm any similar mentions of this happening, or will I need to log a ticket with Microsoft for this?

Kind Regards, Steve Sands.

IE9 Prohibits .pdf File Download, Uninstall Does Not Correct

$

I had been using IE8 with Win7 SP1 Home to download bank statement pdf files (.asp) from an https: site successfully for months.  I installed IE9, but then could no longer download those pdf files, receiving a "blank page" URL instead.  Furthermore, I could no longer access the NOAA weather satellite image loop sites after the IE9 installation, instead received a site error message which closed IE9.  I uninstalled IE9, which then reverted to IE8 as expected.  After the IE8 re-installation the bank statements started to download but then stopped with no images showing, although the correct URL was shown in the address line instead of the "blank page" URL.  However, the NOAA weather satellite image loops do execute correctly with the re-installed IE8.

Is there some default setting that needs to be set, or reset to enable the .asp (pdf) files to download correctly again?

Thank You.

Since a few days we are seeing "favicon.ico" and "|//browserguard1" has been frequently added to the end of the url causing errors. The requests share this attributes in common:

1.- browser client --> IE11  (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko)

2.- referer --> "http://127.0.0.1/ie-tab-l/indexIE.html"

3.- example request:

optionName=Searchingfavicon.ico HTTP/1.1″ 200 3618 “http://127.0.0.1/ie-tab-l/indexIE.html” “Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko”

Started early Feb 2014.
