IE11: Unable to enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2

I have recently been testing Windows in FIPS-compliance mode for compliance with a common security policy mandated by a state government agency.  This included my assigned laptop, which is running Windows 8.1 Update Enterprise x64.

As part of the test, I enabled the "System cryptography: Use FIPS 140 compliant cryptographic algorithms, including encryption, hashing and signing algorithms" both in local security policy on my machine and later via a test GPO.  Since that test has completed, I have deleted the GPO and disabled the setting in local security policy.  I've also rebooted several times to verify the setting is truly disabled and also tried creating a GPO that forces that setting to disabled.

What I am seeing is, since performing these tests, I can no longer enable TLS 1.1 or 1.2 on IE11.  They were previously enabled.  The settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 are all grayed out.  SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TLS 1.0 are checked (and cannot be unchecked) and TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are unchecked (and cannot be checked).

Suspecting group policy, I put my user account and computer account in an OU that has group policy inheritance blocked and made a GPO that only forces SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 on for my user account and applied it to my test GPO.  The particular setting is Policies | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer | Internet Control Panel | Advanced Page | Turn off encryption support | Use SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2.  I ran gpupdate /force, rebooted, checked local security policy to confirm that my laptop is not in FIPS mode, then checked the IE11 advanced options and there was no change.

How can I get TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 back?

Report Viewing in software using MSHTML control causes hang and eventual crash (very large HTML generated)

Hello,

We develop a software solution, part of which is to generate reports based on actions recorded.  To generate these reports we generate an HTML file and render the output in an application of ours which uses the MSHTML control to render and view.

We have a customer who is finding that our software takes a very long time to load the report, and it regularly crashes.  We have reproduce the crash in house and found that the crash occurs in the module mshtml.dll.

If we open the same generated HTML (around 60MB in size) in IE 11, the browser crashes as well.

We can generate crash dumps as well if needed.

Planning to open a ticket via MSDN, but it suggested to post here first.

Thank you,

David

uninstall IE11

I have gone through all the normal ways to uninstall IE11. When using installed updates to remove it, Iget some updates failed to remove. I have tried disabling it and then uninstalling it. Same error. I have used

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /quiet /norestart"

to no avail.  I have tried in safe mode all of the above.  Yet I get the same thing each time.  Anyone have any luck with this?

Privacy Statement or Browser Has Been Upgraded page loads after June KB2957689 Cumulative Patch

Hi all,

I am often placed in charge of WSUS for our desktop estate which is primarily Windows 7 SP1 x86 with IE9 as the default browser. During testing today, I found after applying KB2957689 "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9" when a user loads IE, an extra tab loads automatically which goes to the "MS IE9 Privacy Statement" page located at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/products/ie-9/windows-internet-explorer-9-privacy-statement. This only happens once per user after the patch is installed, so I'd imagine the patch adds, or enables a registry key for the first launch.

I can find no mention of this behaviour on the KB article, and no searches in the usual places has lead to any other reports of this happening. Ideally we want to avoid any unnecessary demand to the helpdesk by the displaying of the page.

Can anyone else confirm any similar mentions of this happening, or will I need to log a ticket with Microsoft for this?

Kind Regards, Steve Sands.

Using tab to navigate

I remember a previous supervisor using this shortcut but I can't remember.  For pages that are visited frequently for purposes of data entry (for example, PeopleSoft and Kronos), I know that it is possible to navigate through fields on a webpage using tab.  That can become cumbersome, so I remember my previous supervisor setting her tab key to skip certain fields on certain pages so she could navigate through the page and perform data entry more quickly using her keyboard only.  Does anyone know how to do this?

Java not working in Internet Explorer

I normally use another browser (Google Chrome) but need to use Internet Explorer for a particular online banking service. This service requires a Java applet.

I have the current Java environment (as at 21.3.12), SE 6 Update 31.

Java works in Chrome but does not work in IE8 or IE9.

I have un-installed and re-installed Java several times, tried going back to IE8, turned off ActiveX filtering, confirmed Java scripting is on, checked add-ins are managed correctly and so on and so on, without success. Given Java works it is not a Java issue but must be an IE issue.

Are there any additional steps or diagnostics I can run to try to identify the problem as I need this to be resolved for the purposes of running my business.

Many thanks!

IE 11 Enterprise Mode on Remote Desktop Server

Hi,

I've enabled IE11 Enterprise Mode and setup an XML-file on a fileshare which I've created using "Enterprise Mode Site List manager".

When I logon with my test-user and launc IE, after aprox 65 seconds I get the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\internet explorer\Main\EnterPriseMode\ CurrentVersion string updated to the current version of my XML-file. I can then browse the sites and verify that Enterprise Mode is enabled for the sites that I have specified in my XML-file

The problems I'm facing is that if I logout my user and then log back on again to the server and start IE and brwose the sites Enterprise Mode is no longer enabled for them. Also if my user has manually specified some sites for enterprise mode this does not live between sessions.

Where in the profile does IE EM store the data over which websites that are supposed to be in entprise mode? I've found under AppData\Local\ EmieSiteList and EmieUserList but theese 2 catalogs only contains "container.dat" which is 0 KB?

Anyone know? Has anyone gotten IE EM to work in RDS?

Regards

Jonas

Deploy / installation IE10 messages in ie10_main.log

We are deploying Internet Explorer 10 to different machines thru gpo. On some machines installation runs fine but on some machines it looks like it is running at computer startup (it takes a while before login screen appears) but it isn't installed. Lookin in de %windir%\ie10_main.log there are some errors like:

waiting for 6 prerequisite downloads
download completed starting installation of 6 prerequisites
error downloading prerequisite file (kb2670838)

failed to resume automatic updates.

After logging in on the machine ie8 is still installed not ie10.

The ie10 msi file which is deployed thru computer group policy is made with IEAK10 on a windows 7 machine with IE10 instaled. In IEAK it is synchronised so all updates are in the msi (i think). Installation goes wrong on downloading installing updates it looks like but why is he downloading updates while it is in the msi file?

What can i do about this?

incorrect user logged on in SAP

we have a problem affecting about 5 people in the same department.

they login to the sap portal with their own details but another user's details show. to resolve this, they log off the other user and login again and everything is fine.

problem is that this happens randomly and we are afraid of it spreading into the organization. we are unable to replicate the problem as this doesn't happen every time these users login.

Personal Certificates Randomly Disappearing from IE9

Hello,

I have systems running Win 7 Enterprise (64-bit) and IE9.  A particular group uses digital certs to access some web-based applications.  There appears to be an issue where the certs are randomly dropped from the certificate store.  I am able to restore them from a backup and they work as intended until the next instance of this issue.  As mentioned, it is random with all the users of a particular group, all accessing the same applications.  The certs are far from their expiration date, some have had the problem with newly issued certs.  Can anyone point me in the right direction to research what may be causing this to happen?

Thank you

MSHTML.DLL Crash

0

Hi,

I have in my company an application developed by my own company. Its a .NET application.

Under some circunstances, it crashes with the following event in event viewer:

Name of the module with errors: mshtml.dll, version: 8.0.7601.17514, timestamp: 0x4ce7b8f3
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Error offset: 0x002ac98c
Process ID with errors: 0x1b60
Module with error path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mshtml.dll

I'm getting crazy with this error. Disable DEP doesn't solve the problem. But if the application is run with a user who is member of local Administrators group, it doesn't crash. If the user is not member of Local Administrators group, it always crashes in the same point.

I have googled, and found some updates to apply, but I have the latest patches, and, I think if it were a problem of patches, the problem would happen both with normal users and local administrator users.

Any clue on what to research?

The system is Windows 2008 R2 SP1 and Internet Explorer 8.0.7601.17514

Thanks in advance.
