IE downloading files as _ versus . extensions

$

I am using IE 10.  On the same PC, when I try and download ANY file (exe, zip, axpx etc) it prompts to download it as an _exe or _zip etc.  If I log in as another user on my PC, it downloads fine.  I checked the IE security settings on every single window and compared to mine and they're identical.  I know that this is an issue on our GPO but do not know which exact setting is causing this to happen so am unable to modify it from there.

It does not matter what website it is as it happens on them all.  No I cannot just use Chrome as my issue also happens in CRM which requires IE (CRM 4.0).  I didn't have this issue until the GPO was changed but they don't know which exact setting must change to permit it.

MSHTML.DLL Crash

Hi,

I have in my company an application developed by my own company. Its a .NET application.

Under some circunstances, it crashes with the following event in event viewer:

Name of the module with errors: mshtml.dll, version: 8.0.7601.17514, timestamp: 0x4ce7b8f3
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Error offset: 0x002ac98c
Process ID with errors: 0x1b60
Module with error path: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mshtml.dll

I'm getting crazy with this error. Disable DEP doesn't solve the problem. But if the application is run with a user who is member of local Administrators group, it doesn't crash. If the user is not member of Local Administrators group, it always crashes in the same point.

I have googled, and found some updates to apply, but I have the latest patches, and, I think if it were a problem of patches, the problem would happen both with normal users and local administrator users.

Any clue on what to research?

The system is Windows 2008 R2 SP1 and Internet Explorer 8.0.7601.17514

Thanks in advance.

Deploy / installation IE10 messages in ie10_main.log

We are deploying Internet Explorer 10 to different machines thru gpo. On some machines installation runs fine but on some machines it looks like it is running at computer startup (it takes a while before login screen appears) but it isn't installed. Lookin in de %windir%\ie10_main.log there are some errors like:

waiting for 6 prerequisite downloads
download completed starting installation of 6 prerequisites
error downloading prerequisite file (kb2670838)

failed to resume automatic updates.

After logging in on the machine ie8 is still installed not ie10.

The ie10 msi file which is deployed thru computer group policy is made with IEAK10 on a windows 7 machine with IE10 instaled. In IEAK it is synchronised so all updates are in the msi (i think). Installation goes wrong on downloading installing updates it looks like but why is he downloading updates while it is in the msi file?

What can i do about this?

uninstall IE11

I have gone through all the normal ways to uninstall IE11. When using installed updates to remove it, Iget some updates failed to remove. I have tried disabling it and then uninstalling it. Same error. I have used

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /quiet /norestart"

to no avail.  I have tried in safe mode all of the above.  Yet I get the same thing each time.  Anyone have any luck with this?

IE 11 content advisor configuration via GPO

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to enable and configure the content advisor for IE 11 through GPO. The setting in Group Policy preferences is greyed out and there is no way to configure from a regular policy. The only setting relates to showing the content advisor option (it's disabled by default).

I don't wish to use IEAK.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Web sites crash IE11

Many web sites I visit daily cause IE11 to close and reopen, and this can make some of those sites impossible to use. I have not yet found a fix that works. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Siverlight and also Java. When will a fix finally work?

Problem with IE 11 Enterprise Mode on Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)

I am working to deploy Internet Explore 11 with Enterprise mode to all the workstations in my organization and I have run into a peculiar situation. After allowing workstations to update over the last few weeks using SCCM 2012 R2 and the SUP I find that my workstations have successfully installed IE 11 (great!) but now I am trying to enable Enterprise Mode and have an issue. I deployed a SCCM package with 3 programs. The programs include:

Program 1 contains a command line: Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted
Program 2 contains a script with the following lines:
  1. reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode" /v Enable /t REG_SZ
  2. reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\EnterpriseMode" /v SiteList /t REG_SZ
Program 3 contains a command line: Set-ExecutionPolicy Restricted

The programs are reverse dependent so I have deployed Program 3 but it will only run after Program 1 and Program 2 have completed. The deployment works just fine on all computers that have been targeted and I have confirmed that the registry entries are created however my problem is that on some of my Windows 7 computers the Tools menu in Internet Explorer 11 does not show Enterprise Mode while others do. I can't seem to locate a reason for the inconsistency. I have looked through the IE 11 prereqs and those don't seem to make a big difference.Has anyone else experienced and issue where Enterprise Mode doesn't show up in the tools menu of IE after the registry changes have been implemented. By the way I do not have a group policy that would otherwise over-ride these settings.

Internet Explorer display blank page

Hi all,

I have IE10 x64 and Win 7 x64 + SP1, but my IE cannot open any page. I mean, when I type any URL in IE, loads and then display an blank page to me. The title is blank, the page is blank. All the other application that use a embedded explorer control also displays nothing.

  • Click settings icon: The "About Internet Explorer" is gray. Many other menus are gray (such as "Print" and "Save as").
  • Right click on the blank page,  no context menu displayed.
  • Tried to run IE without extension, the issue.
  • disabled GPU rendering won't fix the issue.
  • uninstall then re-install won't fix the issue.
  • run "sfc /scannow", say nothing goes wrong.
  • Google chrome works properly.

UPDATE:

Press alt to call out menu bars, most of the menu items doesn't work, except those in the View menu. (View source doesn't work, either.)

ENVIRONMENT:

IE version: 10.0.9200

Windows 7 (6.1 build 7601 Service Pack 1)

Display Card: nVidia GTS 450

Blank page

UPDATE: Uninstalled IE 10, IE 9 still displaying blank pages. It might be something wrong with the system. Ho can tell me how to fix?

UPDATE2: Do iediagcmd.exe then regsvr32 on some dlls, then re-install IE 10, now menus are recovered, local files can be properly displayed on IE if launched with. But if I start IE then tried to load pages, not working; loading a remote HTML page is still broken.

UPDATE3: IE 11 still not working.

UPDATE4:

A new upgrade install of Windows 7 (with SP1) solves this issue. There might be registry error.

I get "IE Cannot display webpage" trying to sign into my bank with IE8 and 9

On my 64 bit Win 7 Ultimate, 2 year old PC, 3 days ago, I started getting a "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message using IE 8.  I have cleared all the history and reset several times. I have reset all the network.  I have restarted IE and the PC. I upgraded to IE 9 but the problem is the same.  From this PC i can connect with FireFox.  I can connect from my Vista Pro PC running IE 9 and from another Win 7 Ultimate, X64, PC with IE 8.

The process is to open WWW.BECU.org and provide the user id and password.  When I login, IE takes longer than usual to confirm thruhttps://becu.org.../login.aspx and fails with the ...cannot display webpage.  After I clear and reset, the logon will take me to a page because the cookie is gone so I have to answer a security quistion.  When I respond the question I get the same ... cannot display the webpage message.  If I run diagnostics no problems are found.

With IE 8 I ran bothe 64 bit and 32 bit versions with the same results.  I spent almost an hour with the bank (BECU) teck person and concluded that I have to use FireFox.

Obviously I reset something and we can't find it!  Can you help, please...

Group Policy not populating Compatibility View List in IE 11

I am currently a domain admin in a large, multi domain controller environment. Our AD was much out of date (2000 mix mode) and we are currently updating it in steps (2003 Native at this point)

At the same time other technicians have started patch testing, moving us from IE10 to IE11. However, there seems to be one major catch so far. Users require access to a website that will only run properly in compatibility mode.  This was true in IE10 and is true in IE11.

As such, this website was set as a mandatory compatibility mode page in GPO (Administrative Tempaltes\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Compatibility View\Use Policy List of Internet Explorer 7 sites). This has worked fine for 8, 9, 10 for this site and others.

However, it was not showing in compatibility mode in IE 11 it is showing in normal mode and breaks. The policy is applying normally and the list is accurate in rsop.msc. If the site is added to compatibility mode locally inside IE11 it works fine.

Our patch testers are all seeing the same problem. However, I have been unable to establish if it is just this site or others are affected (mostly it's old billing and intranet sites I don't have access to).

I'm not sure what the disconnect is.

Can't connect to Yahoo.com Mail. Your Browser settings prevent you from automatically redirecting to a new URL.

I have IE9.  When accessing my Yahoo MAIL website (from www.yahoo.com) page it goes into a continuous loop directly after entering the Yahoo user Id and password for email eventually displays the 'browser settings prevent you from automatically redirecting to a new url.' message.  This started before and continues after my PC was cleaned of viruses.  The only advise I got elsewhere online was to turn on activex controls, press refresh,  and allow 'meta refresh'.  I did the first two to no effect.  I can't find out how to do the last one.

Can anyone help?  It's annoying that I have to go to an old, slow XP machine to do what I need to do on Yahoo mail for an organization I handle communications for.   All other sites are accessible (so far) on my IE9 machine.

"Enable alternative codecs in HTML5 media elements" are used only built in Windows 7 codecs, and not play HTML5 videos with LAV or FFDshow. Would such a possibility in the future?

EPM (Enhanced Protection Mode)

I am using IE9 (Win7--64-bit). Why am I being asked to Disable EPM in Internet Explorer?  EPM was introduced in IE10 and 11!! I did disable Protection Mode in my settings, but each time I attempted to open a pdf document, the "...Disable EPM in Internet Explorer..." message would surface.  Any nuggets of wisdom?  I do not want to use IE10 nor IE 11.

Thanks   ep

Temporay Internet File seems to be hiding files in IE11

$

I've been d/l woodworking videos from Vimeo, which saves as mp4, which means I just have to save these files to a different folder. That was on IE8. I have a new laptop with IE11. When I try to get these files, they're not in T.I.F. They're not in C:\Docs& Settings...etc...Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content\Content.IE5, in any of the subfolders.  BUT. when I access through 'Tools. in the tool bar, and get to View Files. it lists about 3300 files, the largest 3277KB. But when I right-click, select 'Properties' the folder size shows 1.39GB. There is no way those small files it shows in Temporary Internet Files add up to even a meg!

I went into 'Folder Options' of My Computer to see if anything might affect this, but I didn't see anything. I went into 'Advanced' in Internet Option, but didn't want to mess much with these settings, since I'm new to IE11.

I would really like those video files. Has any one seen this before? If so, how do I make these files visible?

Thanks in advance.

Internet Explorer 11 will not open Embedded links or update application software., Open a blank page

Hello,

I have a customer with a brand new HP workstation and the same thing is happening here.

Doing a search in Norton Toolbar and then clicking on one of the results it opens a new IE page but the page is completely blank, including the tab at the top to identify the page. Also when using a tax software program that is running from a web browser and clicking on an update it does the same thing.

When logging onto Online Banking and if you click on a transaction to view a deposit or a check it will not open that item.

The computer was installed 15 days ago. The first time we installed Office 2013 it asked to activate the product over the Internet. It would not connect to the Microsoft servers to validate the new product. OF course we had to call(phone) it in to validate.

There are more examples of "On Line" things not working properly, these are just a few.

Should I uninstall IE 11 and install IE10.

So Far I have disabled all add-ons, reset IE, Ran a full viruscan - Results Clean (N360). Customer does use the password feature in Norton 360, i beleive it is called the "Vault".

I did uninstall IE 11 and Norton 360. Installed IE 11 on and the same results. Then I installed N360 back on.

Any helpful suggestions  would be appreciated. Customer does not want Chrome installed>

IE11: Unable to enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2

I have recently been testing Windows in FIPS-compliance mode for compliance with a common security policy mandated by a state government agency.  This included my assigned laptop, which is running Windows 8.1 Update Enterprise x64.

As part of the test, I enabled the "System cryptography: Use FIPS 140 compliant cryptographic algorithms, including encryption, hashing and signing algorithms" both in local security policy on my machine and later via a test GPO.  Since that test has completed, I have deleted the GPO and disabled the setting in local security policy.  I've also rebooted several times to verify the setting is truly disabled and also tried creating a GPO that forces that setting to disabled.

What I am seeing is, since performing these tests, I can no longer enable TLS 1.1 or 1.2 on IE11.  They were previously enabled.  The settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 are all grayed out.  SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TLS 1.0 are checked (and cannot be unchecked) and TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are unchecked (and cannot be checked).

Suspecting group policy, I put my user account and computer account in an OU that has group policy inheritance blocked and made a GPO that only forces SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 on for my user account and applied it to my test GPO.  The particular setting is Policies | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer | Internet Control Panel | Advanced Page | Turn off encryption support | Use SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2.  I ran gpupdate /force, rebooted, checked local security policy to confirm that my laptop is not in FIPS mode, then checked the IE11 advanced options and there was no change.

How can I get TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 back?

IE 11 Enterprise Mode on Remote Desktop Server

Hi,

I've enabled IE11 Enterprise Mode and setup an XML-file on a fileshare which I've created using "Enterprise Mode Site List manager".

When I logon with my test-user and launc IE, after aprox 65 seconds I get the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\internet explorer\Main\EnterPriseMode\ CurrentVersion string updated to the current version of my XML-file. I can then browse the sites and verify that Enterprise Mode is enabled for the sites that I have specified in my XML-file

The problems I'm facing is that if I logout my user and then log back on again to the server and start IE and brwose the sites Enterprise Mode is no longer enabled for them. Also if my user has manually specified some sites for enterprise mode this does not live between sessions.

Where in the profile does IE EM store the data over which websites that are supposed to be in entprise mode? I've found under AppData\Local\ EmieSiteList and EmieUserList but theese 2 catalogs only contains "container.dat" which is 0 KB?

Anyone know? Has anyone gotten IE EM to work in RDS?

Regards

Jonas

IE 10 Mangled Image issue

$

Hi All,

I am in the midst of a very strange occurence. I currently have an application installed on a client's machine that serves up a web app. For myself and another, the default IIS 7 logo displays partially with the rest of the image resembling tv static or snow. Sorry I cannot include the picture as this is my first post.

The root document for the web app tends to display similar, but upon refreshing may display partial contents of the javascript text or html text, but never the complete web form. Another user, however, is able to access this web app/iis server without any issue what so ever.

Please note the following conditions:

I am running windows 7 SP1 32 bit with IE10.

The user who HAS access is running the same image/laptop etc. Possibly different drivers. IE Settings are managed by our domain, possible I have a bum set of GPO's being pushed down or his aren't pushed down fully etc.

The workstation is behind a SonicWALL TZ105, I have turned off Content Filtering and numerous other things to ensure it is not that device, still not completely sold.

The other user (B) who DOES NOT have access is running Windows XP, but is a member of the same domain as myself and User A.

I am at my witts end here as I have followed articles left and right and no one quite sees this error.

Thanks in advance for the help!

IE9 Privacy Statement loads after June KB2957689 Cumulative Patch

$

Hi all,

I am often placed in charge of WSUS for our desktop estate which is primarily Windows 7 SP1 x86 with IE9 as the default browser. During testing today, I found after applying KB2957689 "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9" when a user loads IE, an extra tab loads automatically which goes to the "MS IE9 Privacy Statement" page located at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/products/ie-9/windows-internet-explorer-9-privacy-statement. This only happens once per user after the patch is installed, so I'd imagine the patch adds, or enables a registry key for the first launch.

I can find no mention of this behaviour on the KB article, and no searches in the usual places has lead to any other reports of this happening. Ideally we want to avoid any unnecessary demand to the helpdesk by the displaying of the page.

Can anyone else confirm any similar mentions of this happening, or will I need to log a ticket with Microsoft for this?

Kind Regards, Steve Sands.
