Problem Viewing gpresult report from local drive via Internet Explorer 10.

I am in the process of upgrading our systems from IE8 to IE10.  I have noticed when I try to view a gpresult html report saved to the local machine, all of the headers are expanded.  I do not have the option to show all or hide all.  Is seems like the format is not as clean.  It is not displaying properly.  If I open the same file from a shared location, it opens just fine.  I am wondering if there is a setting that is causing this format to be off when I open an html file from the local machine.

Hi,

I Installed some "ABC" Activex 9.5 version and 10.1 version in the system.

I have ASP.net webpage which should use only 9.5 version of Activex.  But by default 10.1 version is active and invoking by webpage.

Is there any way to enforce from webpage to use only 9.5 version of Activex?

Please let me know if you need more details.

Internet Explorer 9 spawns new windows when I close it

Sometimes when I close an Internet Explorer window, it starts to spawn new windows from the same website.  Usually I can rapidly close the windows until they are all gone, but sometimes they open so quickly, I can't keep up.  Yesterday I had 70 new windows popped up before it finally stopped.  This happens most often from Gmail, but it has happened a few times on some other websites.  Yesterday I tried resetting IE to the defaults, but it seemed to almost make it worse.  I can reproduce the issue about 25-50% of the time today.

Are there any monitoring programs I can install to capture everything that is happening on my machine when the issue occurs, so I can possibly trace what is triggering this problem?  I suppose it is possible there is some malware on my computer, but Symantec Endpoint Protection isn't detecting anything.

I'm running IE Version 9.0.8112.16421, on a Windows 7 Enterprise OS (Service Pack 1).  Reinstalling the OS or other drastic things like that are not an option.  I need to isolate the root cause and fix it.

How can I restore IE 10 after 11 installs?

Hello all,

Internet Explorer 11 automatically installed on my computer and now I'm having trouble logging into several sites (notably my online bank site and eBay).  I want to go back to IE 10 or even 9 but haven't found a way to do that.  So far I've tried:

  1. Turning IE 11 off (since you can't uninstall it)
  2. Tried to install IE 10 but it says it's already installed (the same goes for IE 9)
  3. Tried to find the .exe file for 9 or 10 (since it's still installed) but every iexplore.exe opens IE 11 and no other.
  4. My last resort will be to do a complete computer restore to an earlier date before IE 11 was installed.  But I hate to do that.

The error I get on eBay is "If you are seeing this page, your browser settings prevent you for automatically redirecting to a new URL."   I can log in fine with Google Chrome but get nowhere with IE 11.  I’ve tried to find the settings that prevent a page from redirecting but can find nothing, plus IE 11 is totally different from previous versions so have to figure out where the settings even are.

Can anyone offer any suggestions or tips to help me get back to an earlier version of Internet Explorer?  I’m really frustrated with IE all together now and if there is no solution, I’ll just stay with Google Chrome.

Thanks,

Marcine

IE 9, Windows 7, Windows 8, SHA-2 encryption, certificate

Currently, I have I have an Exchange 2010 Service with 2 client access/ transport servers and 2 mailbox servers.  I use a barracuda load balance appliance to manage the CASarray.   Our SSL certificate for the service is currently SHA-1.  I would like to replace  the SSL certificate so that it using SHA-2 encyption keys.  What compatibility issues do I need to be concerned about?  Most of our users are running Windows 7 with Outlook 2010 and/or Outlook 2007 to the Exchange 2010 service.    We also have a few Apple users running OS X and Office 2011 for the MAC.   We have a lot of ipad ii and above and iphone 4 and above users  using ios to connect to the service as well.    People  use a variety of web browsers:  firefox, chrome, internet explorer, safarii.  Most of my users are still using IE 9.x due to better compatibility with some of our SAP software.

Will my users have problems using a comodo sha-2 ssl certificate in my environment?  Specifically, will there be issues with IE9.x on Windows 7?  Any issues with Apple devices?

GPO to enable Automatically Detect Settings

There are a lot of posts on this but nothing I have come across is helpful. All I need is a GPO that enables "Automatically Detect Settings" under Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings. My ultimate goal is to lock that setting enabled. I have the second piece of that puzzle already solved.  The GPO setting: User > Admin Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Disable Changing Automatic Configuration settings. When I enable that the setting becomes locked down to the user. The problem is the first piece of the puzzle - enabling the option.

First, let me state this clearly, most of our workstations are Windows 7 and the domain controllers are Server 2012.  There is no "Internet Explorer Maintenance" section in GPO.  After a lot of digging around the only way I can find to specify that setting (other then the GUI) is via the registry key: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet settings\Connections\DefaultConnectionSettings. Specifically, you need to modify the 9th hex pair as outlined in this article: http://atyoung.blogspot.no/2012/06/info-regarding-hkeycurrentusersoftwarem.html

Please tell me there's an easy way to do this via GPO that I'm overlooking.  I'm not sure what else is contained within the DefaultConnectionSettings key nor do I know (easily) how consistent it is between different versions of Windows and Internet Explorer.  As such, the idea of using GPO to overwrite the key seams like a bad one to me.

IE 11 Enterprise Mode questions

We have several applications that seem to have some trouble with IE 11. One of them runs on CRM4  currently, but we will be updating to CRM11 very soon.  Since there are still some compatibility issues with CRM11 and IE11 for key functions of this application, we need to know if the Enterprise Mode will also work on CRM11 the way it does with CRM4 (which is only compatible with IE8) since it is compatible with IE10.  If Enterprise Mode works to make web applications compatible with ALL older versions, this would be optimal, but I can only find documentation stating that it works to emulate IE8

incorrect user logged on in SAP

we have a problem affecting about 5 people in the same department.

they login to the sap portal with their own details but another user's details show. to resolve this, they log off the other user and login again and everything is fine.

problem is that this happens randomly and we are afraid of it spreading into the organization. we are unable to replicate the problem as this doesn't happen every time these users login.

I have been trying to save https://www.google.com.au/ as the home page.  No matter how I do, whether I log on as an administrator or run it as an administrator, it won't change even it looks as if it saves.  Open the Internet options again, it still shows the previous setup.

Internet explorer slow, in private Browsing fast

Hi,

I'm having performance issues with Internet explorer for a number of users. as an example easyjet.com is slow and takes over 10 seconds to load. However if i switch to in private browsing the same site loads in around a second. I have tried disabling all toolbars and extensions and disabling Protected mode. Are there other settings that in private browsing disables?

Thanks,

Nick

Unable to view SSL certificate in IE11

Hi,

I'm feeling really dumb but I can't figure out how to view the details of an SSL certificate in IE11.

On previous version of IE you would simply click on the padlock that appears in the address bar and then select view certificate. On IE11 the padlock does not appear. The particular problem I'm having is that I'm trying to diagnose why Windows 8.1 with IE11 is rejecting a perfectly valid cert. All I get is a screen telling me that there is a problem with the certificate (it says that the cert is revoked) but no details and I can't figure out how to view the details.

Win 7 Pro updates to Internet Explorer 11 every web page has blank frames and radio buttons. Updates show only IE11.

This entry frame on your page has radio buttons, giving me some editing functions - Bold, Italic, Underline, Insert unordered List, Insert Ordered List, Insert Hyperlink, Remove Hyperlink, Insert HTML, etc... but I cannot see them.  Ever since updating Internet Explorer to ver 11, there is no going back to IE8.  Your Tech forum monitors keep rehashing the same links that do not answer this snafu.  Your Monitors suggest that the web sites are not running because they are not compatible with the newer versions of Internet Explorer - well, even Microsoft's websites?  When you create a new web interface, why would your coding team make it incompatible with your own company's sites?

The Monitors suggest our cards can't handle GPU and we should turn to software rendering.  My card is a GeForce GTX 50 TI and has, according to the manufacturer web site: "Microsoft®  DirectX® 11 Support
DirectX 11 GPU with  Shader Model 5.0 support designed for ultra high performance in the new API’s  key graphics feature, GPU-accelerated tessellation."

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE and Microsoft must realize no customer wants to have the technical side string them along with pointless and futile misdirection to a garble of automatic chat responses that offer incomplete and unrelated fixes and then expect to gain points in the voting buttons that "this fixed my problem".

Microsoft: you are ignoring compatibility problems with your coding and pretending it is arises from hardware incompatibility or user stupidity.  Your code should be running seamlessly, should accommodate existing technologies, and be flexible enough to accept limitations of older hardware, older websites, and your monitors should march into Microsoft's development offices and demand answers ---- and fixes.  Has Microsoft gone into hiding when the latest technology show-piece isn't working for the rest of the world?  We do not exist in a research bubble.  We are here in the real world, with aging equipment and tight budgets, and we expect better from Microsoft.

IE11: Unable to enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2

$

I have recently been testing Windows in FIPS-compliance mode for compliance with a common security policy mandated by a state government agency.  This included my assigned laptop, which is running Windows 8.1 Update Enterprise x64.

As part of the test, I enabled the "System cryptography: Use FIPS 140 compliant cryptographic algorithms, including encryption, hashing and signing algorithms" both in local security policy on my machine and later via a test GPO.  Since that test has completed, I have deleted the GPO and disabled the setting in local security policy.  I've also rebooted several times to verify the setting is truly disabled and also tried creating a GPO that forces that setting to disabled.

What I am seeing is, since performing these tests, I can no longer enable TLS 1.1 or 1.2 on IE11.  They were previously enabled.  The settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 are all grayed out.  SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, and TLS 1.0 are checked (and cannot be unchecked) and TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are unchecked (and cannot be checked).

Suspecting group policy, I put my user account and computer account in an OU that has group policy inheritance blocked and made a GPO that only forces SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 on for my user account and applied it to my test GPO.  The particular setting is Policies | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer | Internet Control Panel | Advanced Page | Turn off encryption support | Use SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2.  I ran gpupdate /force, rebooted, checked local security policy to confirm that my laptop is not in FIPS mode, then checked the IE11 advanced options and there was no change.

How can I get TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 back?

I have gone through all the normal ways to uninstall IE11. When using installed updates to remove it, Iget some updates failed to remove. I have tried disabling it and then uninstalling it. Same error. I have used

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /quiet /norestart"

to no avail.  I have tried in safe mode all of the above.  Yet I get the same thing each time.  Anyone have any luck with this?

IE9 : Do you want to Open or Save this file prompt

Hi,

I understand there have been a few people who have asked this, but I can't seem to find a definite answer on this.

1. Can this be disabled?

2. If not, why not? What is the security feature or concept behind this prompt making it not possible to to be turned off?

3. If this can't be turned off, what do Microsoft recommend to customers in enterprise environments who have this requirement?  An e.g. is, a SAP database user who regularly has to download numerous pdf/docx files, but this prompt only makes the user environment worse. It sure is very much understandable that regularly downloading files from a particular link, becomes annoying to the user if he/she has to click this prompt every time.

Enterprise Mode / IE11 Cache Issue

$

I've successfully deployed Enterprise Mode (EM) within our environment and host the XML on a public web server for accessibility.  I've had success in accessing sites in EM, however recently I've added a new site which is having a peculiar issue.  This particular site redirects you to an "Incompatible Browser" page when viewing the site in IE11 and after putting it in EM it still displays this page, however when accessing the site from another computer, EM works and the site displays correctly. I've tried deleting all cache from Temporary Internet Files (specifically the XML) and various methods in attempting to access it, however I'm still unable to access from computers who have been presented with the "Incompatible Browser" page.

Does anyone know if this would be some cache issue I'm unaware of? Is there a way to force EM for a particular site for testing purposes other than using the XML? Any additional advice or feedback would be great.

Thanks!

John
